On the afternoon of Wednesday October 7th 2026 the Bay Shore Fire Department responded to a report of a boat fire in the Bay Shore Marina in area of Nicky’s On The Bay. Bay Shore FD units were already out on a earlier alarm and quickly responded to the Marina. While responding Chief of Department Ippolito was monitoring Suffolk County PD Command Band and heard the vessel was unoccupied and drifting towards S. Penataquit Ave near the β€œPoint”. Chief Ippolito redirected responding units to that location and once on scene found the vessel with smoke showing from the cabin area but the vessel was approx 10 feet off the bulkhead. While Bay Shore FD units awaited the response of bsfd_marine26, Chief Ippolito started staging crews on land and with the assistance of the Suffolk County PD Marine J boat was able to get the effect vessel to bulkhead and secured so members could attack the fire aboard. Once on the boat members made quick work of an engine compartment fire using a hand line from Bay Shore FD Marine-26. Units checked for extension and ventilated the cabin using a mechanical fan. Once secure the boat was tuned over the TowBoatUS Bay Shore also on scene was Town of Babylon Public Safety Bay Constables, NYS DEC Police, NOAA Police and mutual aid fire boat from East Islip FD. All units were released and back in service in just under 1 hour. This was just one of 9 runs Bay Shore FD handled over the 24 hour period of October 7th. Earlier today the members of the Bay Shore Fire Department responded to a report of a dog trapped under a shed at a home on Gardiner Dr in Bay Shore. On the way within minutes were Chief of Department John Ippolito, Jr. and 1st Asst. Chief Nick Danza both members of the Bay Shore FD Fire Emergency Service Squad. While responding Chief Ippolito was advised by Dept. Training/Safety Officer Martino there was in deed a dog trapped under a shed in the rear of the location. Once on scene Chiefs Ippolito and Danza along with TO Martino and now Lt. Tieniber preformed a quick size up and attempted to effect a quick rescue by digging a trench to allow the dog access to the front of the shed. The dog being scared removed to come out and moved deeper underneath. Chief Ippolito requested air bags and the HURST Jaws Of Life rescue tools along with wood cribbing to the back yard from Fire Patrol/RAC 3-1-11 which was acting as RQ 3-1-8. The crew of Rescue 11 quickly deployed the required equipment and went to work on freeing the trapped pet, Cody. Working together the members of the Bay Shore FD were able to lift the shed using the Hurst Tool aka β€œJaws of Life” and cribbing and were able to rescue the dog in about 20 minutes and without further incident. The pets owner was grateful for the efforts of all on scene and the members were glad to be gable to assist. This call was just one of nine calls Bay Shore FD ran today and is always ready to answer the call to respond. Earlier today the Bay Shore FD was alerted for a report of multiple vehicles on fire on Moffit Blvd between Brentwood Road and Saxon Ave in Bay Shore.

Within minutes of activation Chief of Department Ippolito advised BSFD Dispatch he had a large column of smoke visible from Sunrise Highway and Brook Ave. Once on scene Chief Ippolito requested a First Alarm assignment and started command.

Once on scene Bay Shore FD units forced entry onto the property and began fire suppression operations, lead by 1st Asst. Chief Danza crews began an aggressive attack with hand lines while crews set up master stream operations using Bay Shore L 3-1-7 and West Islip TL 3-17-4.

Due to the Nor’ Easter effecting the area the firefighters battled strong winds which didn’t stop them. Bay Shore FD crew alongside numerous mutual aid departments worked for over 3 hours to contain this wind driven fire. As crews operated Mother Nature didn’t and firefighters encountered more rain from the Nor’Easter Long Island has been experiencing this weekend.

Thanks to the hard work of all on scene the fire was placed under control 3:38 PM with no injuries were reported. During the entire alarms crews from Bay Shore-Brightwaters Rescue Ambulance provided EMS coverage and support of fire operations, Islip Town Fire Marshal Office along with MTA Fire Marshal, Suffolk County PD 3rd Pct and MTAPD where also on scene. Cause of the fire is under investigation and alarm was cleared at 4:39 PM.

Bay Shore FD would like to thank all who assisted both on scene and covering our district while we operated at this alarm. Today, the Bay Shore Fire Department joins our community and our nation in solemnly marking the 25th anniversary of the attacks of September 11, 2001.

Twenty-five years have passed, but we have not forgotten the nearly 3,000 innocent civilians and first responders whose lives were taken that day, including the 343 members of the FDNY, 23 members of the NYPD, and 37 members of the Port Authority Police Department (PAPD) who made the ultimate sacrifice.

We also honor the countless first responders, recovery workers, volunteers, and others who have since passed away from 9/11-related illnesses. Their sacrifice continued long after the smoke cleared, and they too must never be forgotten.

We remember the civilians who never made it home, the heroes who ran toward danger, the families who lost loved ones, and everyone whose life was forever changed that September morning.

For those of us in the fire service, September 11th will always remind us of the true meaning of service, courage, brotherhood, sacrifice, and duty.

On behalf of the officers and members of the Bay Shore Fire Department, we honor every life lost on September 11th and in the years that followed.

25 years later, our promise remains the same: WE WILL NEVER FORGET. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

May God bless our fallen heroes, their families, our first responders, and the United States of America.
