October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The Beatrice Police Department is proud to participate in the Pink Patch Project, a national initiative that brings law enforcement agencies together from across the country to raise awareness of breast cancer and show support for those affected by the disease.

Throughout October, our officers will be wearing pink patches to help spread awareness and show our support for the fighters, survivors, and families impacted by breast cancer.

Breast cancer affects so many individuals, families, and communities. We are proud to join departments across the nation in supporting this cause and helping bring awareness to a disease that touches so many lives.

We wear pink in support of the fighters, in honor of the survivors, and in memory of those we have lost.

Today, with children on the playground, rain falling, and pavement wet, a vehicle was observed traveling 50 mph in a 25 mph school zone near Beatrice Elementary School. That’s twice the posted speed limit.

We do everything we can to help keep our schools and children safe, but we need your help, too. Please slow down, pay attention and follow posted speed limits, especially in school zones. Wet roads and reduced visibility make speeding even more dangerous.

Please check your speed, not only to keep everyone safe, but so officers dont have to write you a $695 ticket as well.

Our priority is getting everyone home safely. Please do your part to protect our kids.

Today, some of our SWAT officers completed their bi-annual SWAT Physical Fitness Test.

The test includes bench press, sprint, one-mile run, leg press, push-ups, and sit-ups—challenging both strength and cardiovascular endurance.

Maintaining physical fitness is an important part of being prepared for the demands of SWAT operations. Our officers continue to put in the work to stay ready, capable, and prepared to serve our community when called upon.

Great work to everyone who completed their Fitness Test today.

We’re just a few weeks away from Night of the Great Pumpkin!

This year, Future First Responders is excited to be part of the fun happening downtown on Court Street from 5:00–7:00 PM!

Calling all little police officers and firefighters! 🚓🚒 If your child plans to dress up as a police officer or firefighter for Night of the Great Pumpkin, be sure to stop by the Future First Responders tent.

Kids dressed as police officers or firefighters will have the opportunity to participate in their very own Future First Responder Swearing-In Ceremony and receive a special certificate to take home!

It’s a fun way for kids to meet local first responders, learn a little more about what we do, and officially become a Future First Responder for the evening.

With the potential for flooding, now is a good time to take a few simple steps to prepare and help keep yourself, your family, and your neighbors safe.

Please:
• Stay informed and monitor weather alerts and local updates.
• Avoid flooded roadways and never attempt to drive through standing or moving water. Remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown.
• Be aware that road conditions can change quickly, and do not drive around barricades or road closures.
• Check on neighbors, family members, and others who may need additional assistance.
• If you live in an area that could be affected by flooding, consider moving vehicles, outdoor equipment, and other belongings to higher ground.

If you encounter a non-emergency situation that requires assistance, call the Beatrice Police Department at 402-223-4080. In an emergency, always call 911.

Please stay alert, stay informed, and look out for one another as we prepare for possible flooding.
