Our 8th grade history students recently brought the Boston Tea Party to life through a hands-on engineering and history project with Ms. Holofchak and Mr. Palmieri. Students researched the design and construction of colonial merchant ships, created detailed sketches, built model boats based on their understanding of how these vessels floated, and tested the boats in water as it carried cargo. We had several boats in each class that were able to hold the cargo, add passengers, and survive a storm.
After testing their knowledge of ship engineering, students reflected on the Boston Tea Party itself, analyzing what made the protest successful and its impact on American history. They also considered an interesting question: Would they have joined the Sons of Liberty in protesting British policies, or would they have preferred the role of a merchant ship owner whose livelihood depended on trade? This project combined historical thinking, research, design, and creativity in a memorable way. We are proud of their hard work and thoughtful reflections.

🕵️‍♀️🔎 Case Closed!

Yesterday, our 6-8 Math PLC transformed into a detective agency as teachers worked in grade-level teams to solve the Case of the Misaligned PLDs. Armed with evidence from mystery case files, they analyzed student tasks, debated which Performance Level Descriptor best fit the evidence, and built a case to support their conclusions.

There were a few disagreements along the way, but that's where the real learning happened! Through thoughtful discussion, constructive feedback, and collaborative problem-solving, teams challenged each other's thinking and sharpened their understanding of task alignment. Once each case was cracked, teams presented their evidence and findings to colleagues for review.

A great reminder that productive struggle, professional dialogue, and a little fun can lead to powerful learning! 🔍📚✨
