💜 Lead With Purple: Partnering With Lamar University for Awareness!
Domestic Violence Awareness Month is bringing our community together, and we're excited to see Lamar University students helping lead the conversation!

Family Services of Southeast Texas recently stopped by Lamar University to connect with a local chapter of Alpha Chi Omega as they prepare to raise awareness about domestic violence on campus.

Alpha Chi Omega's national philanthropic focus includes domestic violence awareness, making this a meaningful opportunity to connect student involvement with the work Family Services does throughout Southeast Texas.

Family Services of Southeast Texas believes conversations about healthy relationships matter for teens and young adults, too.

Learning about boundaries, respect, communication and relationship expectations can give young people tools they can carry into future relationships.

Family Services provides community education that brings these conversations directly to the people and communities we serve.

A technology-related warning sign can be a partner demanding passwords or repeatedly checking someone’s phone, messages or online activity as a way to monitor or control them.

Technology can be part of a person’s safety concerns. Family Services of Southeast Texas advocates can help survivors consider their individual circumstances as part of safety planning and connect them with available support.

💜 Lead With Purple: Safety Planning Is Personal

There is no single safety plan that works for everyone.

At Family Services of Southeast Texas, safety planning is individualized because each person’s circumstances, concerns, resources and next steps can be different. Our advocates work with survivors to consider options and develop a plan based on their specific situation.

Family Services also works to address domestic violence through our Batterer Intervention and Prevention Program (BIPP). BIPP classes focus on accountability and changing behaviors associated with family violence—another part of our organization’s work toward safer individuals, families and communities.

Looking for a safe space to connect, share, listen, and find support? 💙
Starting TOMORROW on October 9, we will be offering two free support groups open to the public, meeting every 1st Friday from 4–5 PM at:

📍 3550 Fannin St., Beaumont, TX
There will be two separate groups happening at the same time:
💜 Domestic Violence Support Group
A space for those impacted by domestic violence to connect with others and access support.
💙 Sexual Assault Support Group
A separate space for those impacted by sexual assault to connect, share, and find support.

You do not have to be a current client to attend. Anyone is welcome to join. The groups are free, and you are welcome to attend as often as you'd like.

💜 Does this feel true for you?

In a healthy relationship, you should be able to talk about difficult things without being afraid of your partner’s reaction or what they might say.

That doesn’t mean every conversation will be easy. Couples can disagree. Feelings can get hurt. Sometimes you may need a break before continuing a conversation.

But you should be able to express your feelings, bring up concerns, disagree, and set boundaries without being threatened, humiliated, punished, or made to feel afraid.

Healthy relationships make room for honesty, respect, communication, and safety.

At Family Services of Southeast Texas, these conversations connect directly to the work we do. Through counseling and prevention education, we provide support and education focused on healthy relationships, communication, boundaries, and safety.
