As we prepare for the upcoming hurricane season, Judge Branick and Jefferson County Office of Emergency Management is conducting a tabletop exercise to review emergency response plans, strengthen coordination, and ensure readiness for potential storms. The official 2026 NOAA Atlantic Hurricane Season Outlook has been released. A below-normal hurricane season is predicted. A graphic for the outlook is included below. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30.

TxDOT Traffic Alert: Jefferson County & Orange County
May 15, 2026
JEFFERSON COUNTY – The right lane of I‑10 westbound from College Street to Washington Boulevard will be closed on Saturday, May 16, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Crews will be performing repair work at the Washington Boulevard exit, which will require the exit to be closed during this time. Drivers should use an alternate route and expect delays.

JEFFERSON COUNTY – Expect overnight delays on IH‑10 eastbound and westbound from 7th Street to Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway beginning Sunday, May 17, through Thursday, May 21. Crews will be working nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., and drivers should plan for slowed traffic in the area.

ORANGE COUNTY – The left and center lanes of I‑10 westbound will be closed on Monday, May 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. between SH 87 and Adams Bayou.
The left lane of I‑10 eastbound will be closed from Tuesday, May 19, through Friday, May 22, from Adams Bayou to SH 87. This closure will also take place daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Crews will be working on the roadway surface during these times.

JEFFERSON COUNTY – US 69 southbound at SH 73 and US 69 northbound at 39th Street will be closed on Wednesday, May 13, and Thursday, May 14, from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. Drivers should expect delays and use an alternate route.

JEFFERSON COUNTY – The 7th Street exit from I‑10 eastbound will be closed tonight, Tuesday, May 12, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. The previously scheduled 7th Street exit closure from I-10 westbound has been canceled.

Port Neches—Over the next two days, starting on 5/11/2026, Texas Gas has notified us that they will be conducting work to replace their odorant tank along Hwy 366 in front of TPC, by the blue pipes.

Natural gas by itself is an odorless gas. The tanks being replaced are filled with an odorant called Mercaptan. The tank holds the odor that is later put into natural gas to give it a distinct smell.

While we will still respond to any call for service involving potential gas leaks, our community may notice the odor of this mercaptan when a small amount escapes. The odor itself is not harmful to the public. However, when in doubt, call 911.

PNFD will remain vigilant for any adverse impact on our community.

BEAUMONT - As part of the I‑10 / US 69 Interchange Project, the I‑10 eastbound frontage road between 10th Street and 8th Street will be closed beginning Friday, May 8. The closure is expected to remain in place for approximately two years. All work is weather permitting and subject to change. Please refer to the attached flyer for additional details.

JEFFERSON COUNTY – The Pine Street exit will be closed tonight, Tuesday, May 5, from 8 p.m. to midnight for guardrail repairs. Please use an alternate route and expect delays.

JEFFERSON COUNTY – The outside lane of I-10 westbound from South Fork Taylor Bayou to Hamshire Road will be closed on Wednesday, May 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Expect delays.

ORANGE COUNTY – The FM 1442 exit from I-10 westbound will be closed on Wednesday, May 6 and Thursday, May 7. Daily closures will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please use an alternate route.

May 4, 2026
JEFFERSON COUNTY – The 7th Street exit from I-10 eastbound will be closed from 8 p.m. Monday, May 4 to 4 a.m. Tuesday, May 5. Contractors will be working on the exit. Please use an alternate route.

JEFFERSON COUNTY – US 69 northbound at 39th Street will be closed from 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, to 4 a.m. Wednesday, May 6.
US 69 southbound at SH 73 will be closed from 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, to 4 a.m. Wednesday, May 6.
Contractors will be placing concrete bridge deck panels. Please use an alternate route and expect delays.

JEFFERSON COUNTY – The outside lane of I-10 westbound from South Fork Taylor Bayou to Hamshire Road will be closed on Tuesday, May 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Expect delays.

JEFFERSON COUNTY – Contractors continue work at the Calder Avenue exit from I‑10 westbound. Motorists should use the Gladys Avenue exit and turn left onto the frontage road to reach their destination. This closure is expected to remain in place until June 2026.

LIBERTY COUNTY – The SH 105 exit from US 59 northbound will be closed from 8 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, to 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 6. Crews will be placing an overlay at the exit. Please use an alternate route.

Below is the updated seal coat schedule as of Monday, May 4. Seal coat operations are scheduled to resume on Tuesday, May 5.
Please note that all work is weather permitting and subject to change. Drivers traveling through the area should expect lane closures and possible delays while crews are present. Daily operations will take place from sunrise to sunset.
