In a milestone emphasizing the Marine Corps’ successful standardization in recruit training, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island will deactivate Fourth Recruit Training Battalion in a ceremony June 15, 2023, and realign personnel between the service’s two recruit training locations.

The decision to deactivate the battalion was made by Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. David Berger in an effort to capitalize on the gained logistic and training efficiencies achieved from gender integration at recruit training.

The deactivation of the battalion will allow Training and Education Command to reorganize recruit training personnel structure and increase the throughput of integrated training companies at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego. Additional personnel structure will allow the Marine Corps to meet its service-level goal of training roughly 50% of female enlisted Marines at MCRD San Diego by FY24.
