Congratulations to Mayor Val and the Borough of New Brighton!

I recently watched Mayor Val on WBVP discussing New Brighton’s award of a federal NEVI grant to support electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Congratulations to her, Borough Council, and everyone involved in bringing this opportunity to their community!

This is exactly the kind of forward-thinking economic development I believe we should be pursuing here in Beaver.

Public EV charging infrastructure offers an opportunity to attract visitors to our downtown businesses, support local economic activity, and potentially create an additional revenue stream for the Borough—all while preparing our community for the future of transportation.

I’ve been exploring the potential for EV charging stations in Beaver, and New Brighton’s success demonstrates why it’s worth taking a serious look at available funding and partnerships.

I’d like to see Beaver Borough Council take the next step by exploring potential locations, available grants, private-sector partnerships, and the financial feasibility of bringing public EV charging to our community.

With Pennsylvania’s current NEVI Community Charging funding opportunity having an application deadline of November 20, 2026, I believe Beaver should begin evaluating its options now rather than allowing another potential opportunity to pass us by.

We have a beautiful, walkable downtown filled with outstanding restaurants and shops. Imagine travelers stopping to charge their vehicles and spending that time enjoying everything Beaver has to offer.

Congratulations again to our neighbors in New Brighton! Their success is good news for Beaver County, and hopefully an inspiration for what we can accomplish together.

The opportunities are out there. Let’s make sure Beaver is pursuing them!

An update on the proposed Beaver Police Department camera system:

The Borough Manager has provided the LSA grant application and Axon pricing documents. I appreciate receiving this information and am sharing it for residents to review.

The proposed five-year package totals $150,651.80. The grant is listed as $70,223, leaving an estimated Borough contribution of $80,428.80.

The package includes 16 body cameras, eight vehicle camera systems, two automated license plate reader licenses, and related software, storage, installation, and support.

The Axon documents are labeled “Non-Binding Budgetary Estimate.” Council authorized the grant application in October 2025; that is distinct from approving the final purchase agreement.

I am seeking confirmation of the executed grant agreement, eligible expenses, and Council’s authorization for the five-year commitment. Policies governing license plate data retention, access, and sharing also deserve discussion.

Reliable police equipment, responsible spending, and residents’ privacy all matter. Please review the attached documents and participate in the October 13 Council meeting.

I’m sharing the council packet for Beaver Borough’s Tuesday, October 13, 2026 Council meeting so residents can review the agenda and supporting materials.

Please note: The September 8 Council meeting minutes and September 22 work session minutes included in this packet are drafts. They remain subject to correction and are not approved until Council votes to approve them.

The packet also includes my requests for Police Department documents concerning the LSA grant and proposed Axon body and vehicle camera purchase. I have requested the grant application and award conditions, itemized Axon pricing and agreement, ongoing subscription and maintenance costs, and records of any purchase authorization or order.

These documents are needed to understand what the grant covers and what costs Beaver taxpayers would be responsible for, both now and in future years. My correspondence in the packet documents my requests beginning September 26, 2026, and my subsequent request to the Police Chief to ensure the records were provided. As of this posting, I have not received the requested documents.

The Chief and I have a responsibility to work together to ensure informed decisions about police operations and spending. Providing these records would help fulfill that responsibility. I am asking the Chief to provide the documents promptly and Council to support timely access to the information needed for effective oversight.

I encourage residents to review the packet, ask questions, and participate in the public comment portion of the meeting. An informed community helps us make better decisions for Beaver.
