During our August 25th meeting, the Bee Cave City Council unanimously passed a resolution I authored to help ensure our residents receive fair and meaningful consideration for federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding.
Earlier in August, Bee Cave took the important step of joining Travis County’s Urban County CDBG Program. During that process, I raised a concern: Bee Cave and ZIP Code 78738 have comparatively high aggregate household incomes, but those broad statistics don’t tell the story of every resident or family in our community.
A ZIP code shouldn’t automatically prevent an otherwise eligible resident, household, or community need from being considered for assistance.
Resolution 2026-35 formally asks Travis County to consider all lawful methods of determining CDBG eligibility, including the actual income, circumstances, and qualifying needs of the people being served, rather than relying solely on ZIP code or community-wide measures of affluence. It also recognizes the County’s authority over the program and does not ask for preferential treatment for Bee Cave, only a fair opportunity for eligible needs to be considered.
I’m grateful to my colleagues on City Council for their unanimous support, and especially thankful to Assistant City Manager Baker and City Attorney Brad Bullock for their help and guidance in turning this idea into a formal City resolution.
Proud to advocate for Bee Cave and make sure our residents have a seat at the table whenever opportunities like these become available.
