Please share~ a Good Sam found these 3 friendly, young cats hanging out in the same area of the Swift River Wildlife Management Area on East Street for several hours. If they are owned we want to return them to their owners. If they were dumped we will find homes for them. We are guessing that they are littermates. Please call 413-519-1754 with any information.

To prepare for the winter, black bears enter a phase called hyperphagia, which is when an animal greatly increases their daily food and calorie intake to build up their fat reserves. To put it simply, black bears get the munchies! Bears will rely on these fat reserves when they den for about 5 months this winter where they won’t eat, drink, or even go to the bathroom.

Black bears can build up the fat reserves they need by eating the plentiful natural foods available to them. They do not need handouts from people. Do your part in coexisting with black bears by making sure your property isn’t an all-you-can-eat bear buffet.

You can help keep bears wild:
🔸Never intentionally feed bears and other wildlife
🔸Remove or secure all human-associated food sources, including bird seed, trash, compost, and other attractants
🔸Protect chickens and small livestock from bears with effective and maintained electric fencing

We have to use these funds before the end of this calendar year. Please reach out if you receive assistance and need help. We will spay your mom cat for free and take in her kittens to be cared for and adopted out. We will assist with cost of spay/neuter of male & female dogs and cats.

We are excited to announce that we have received another grant from to assist lower income residents with spay/neuter of their pets.
This grant is made possible by the purchase of the spay/neuter license plates.

Honestly, almost every adopter needs to read this.

Kind can be boring.
Sometimes it needs to be.

We want to show them their new life.
But they might need time to recover from the old one first.

And I completely understand the excitement.

You've brought this dog home and you want to give them everything.
All the things that say, "look how good your life can be now"!

But they don't know that yet.

They don't know this house is permanent.
They don't know which noises matter.
They don't know the people walking through the door.

Even the routines they relied on have changed.
Everything's changed.

But one thing we do know.

They arrived with a history.

Sometimes one we know quite a lot about.
Sometimes one we know almost nothing about.

So while we're thinking about all the wonderful things we'd like to add into their life, they may still be trying to make sense of the life they have just landed in.

That's why making their world smaller for a while isn't necessarily depriving them.
It can be giving them fewer things to process at once.

And then, when their new world starts making a bit more sense, it can grow.

There is plenty of time for adventures.
But they don't need to experience their whole new life in their first week.
