We are honored to be recognized by the National Association of Mobile Integrated Healthcare Providers as a Team Approach & Interprofessional Care MIH Week Champion!

This recognition reflects the incredible collaboration of our MIHP team and community partners who work together every day to meet the medical, behavioral, and social needs of the people we serve. Together, we are making a meaningful difference in rural healthcare and building a more connected system of care for our community.

Congratulations to the Team Approach & Interprofessional Care MIH Week Champion, North Mason Regional Fire Authority (NMRFA) MIH Program! 🎉

Serving more than 70% of Mason County, Washington, NMRFA’s rural MIH Program brings together advanced practice providers, nurses, behavioral health professionals, Peer Support Specialists, EMS professionals, physician medical direction, hospitals, public health, and community organizations to address patients’ medical, behavioral, and social needs as one coordinated team.

In 2025, the program completed 1,774 encounters involving 806 unique patients and documented 1,118 emergency department diversions, demonstrating the impact of its team-based approach.

NMRFA shows that complex patients rarely need just one service—they need the right people working together around the whole person. Through true interprofessional collaboration, the team is creating a more connected, patient-centered system of care in rural communities.

🏆 CELEBRATING OUTSTANDING SERVICE, CONGRATULATIONS, ABE GARDNER! 🏆

The North Mason Regional Fire Authority is incredibly proud to recognize one of our own, Abe Gardner, for receiving the Outstanding Service Award at the Washington State Co-Occurring Disorder and Treatment Conference in Yakima this past week. Abe was nominated by the amazing Dilma Demartino of Northwest Resources in Shelton!

There are individuals in every community who quietly and selflessly dedicate their lives to making a difference in the lives of others. Individuals who see challenges as opportunities to help, who recognize the potential in every person, and who refuse to give up on those who need someone in their corner. Abe Gardner is one of those extraordinary individuals.

As an Emergency Prevention Specialist with the North Mason Regional Fire Authority's Mobile Integrated Health Program, Abe works every day to help some of the most vulnerable members of our community overcome significant challenges and barriers. Whether assisting someone experiencing homelessness, navigating mental health or substance use challenges, or simply helping an individual access services and resources that can seem impossible to reach, Abe approaches every situation with compassion, dignity, patience, and an unwavering commitment to helping others.

Abe understands that behind every difficult circumstance is a person who deserves to be heard, respected, and given an opportunity to succeed. His ability to build relationships, establish trust, and bring people and organizations together has opened doors for countless individuals throughout Mason County.

But what makes Abe truly special is that his commitment to serving others extends far beyond the responsibilities of his job.

For more than a decade, Abe has been a tireless advocate for those facing life's greatest challenges. From his previous work with Mason County Public Health developing critical overdose prevention, behavioral health, and community outreach programs to his continued leadership in Mason County's Overdose Awareness efforts, Abe has consistently demonstrated that meaningful change happens when people care enough to take action.

At the North Mason Regional Fire Authority, we have the privilege of witnessing Abe's dedication firsthand. We see the countless hours, the difficult conversations, the compassion he brings to every interaction, and his determination to find solutions when the answers aren't easy. Perhaps most importantly, we see the genuine respect he has for the people he serves, regardless of their circumstances.

Our appreciation and respect for Abe cannot be overstated. He represents the very best of public service and embodies the values we strive to uphold as an organization. His work reminds us that serving our community is about much more than responding to emergencies. It is about building relationships, restoring hope, removing barriers, and making a lasting difference in people's lives.

We are extraordinarily fortunate to have Abe as part of the NMRFA family, and we could not be more proud of the recognition he has received. While this award recognizes his outstanding service, those of us who work alongside Abe know that his greatest accomplishments are often the ones that never receive public attention, the lives he has touched, the trust he has earned, and the people he has helped find a path forward.

Abe, thank you for your compassion, your leadership, your tireless advocacy, and, above all, your heart for serving others. You make our Fire Authority better, you make Mason County stronger, and you remind all of us what it truly means to serve a community.

Please join the entire North Mason Regional Fire Authority family in congratulating Abe Gardner on this well-deserved Outstanding Service Award!

Congratulations, Abe! We are incredibly proud of you!

Congratulations to NMRFA Executive Assistant Katie Musgrave – Washington State's Fire Administrative Professional of the Year!

Last evening was a very special night for the North Mason Regional Fire Authority.

During the Washington State Fire Administrators Conference, hosted by the Washington State Fire Chiefs Association at the Clearwater Casino Resort in Suquamish, our own Katie Musgrave was recognized in front of nearly 200 of her peers as Washington State’s Fire Administrative Professional of the Year!

Her professionalism, dedication, attention to detail, and commitment to our organization and the people we serve have an impact throughout the North Mason Regional Fire Authority every single day. Much of what Katie does happens behind the scenes, but her contributions are essential to our success and to our ability to serve our community.

This award is a wonderful recognition of an exceptional professional and an even better person. We are incredibly fortunate and so very proud to have Katie as part of the North Mason Regional Fire Authority family.

Please join all of us at the NMRFA in congratulating Katie Musgrave, Washington State’s Fire Administrative Professional of the Year!

We’re grateful to see Ryan continuing to make progress, and we know there is a long road ahead. Please take a moment to read the update below and continue to rally around Ryan with your support, encouragement, and prayers.

Update on Firefighter Ryan Jones:

We have some great news to share! After almost 2 weeks at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Firefighter Jones has been transferred to a rehabilitation center in Pierce County. He faces months of daily physical therapy to help heal his body and work towards walking again. He is now able to be transferred into a wheelchair and have some freedom of movement around the center.
He has a slew of follow-up appointments in Seattle to ensure surgical repairs are working and healing appropriately. The ultimate goal for everyone is for Firefigher Jones to return to full duty. The timeline of when that can happen will become more clear as he progresses through treatment and recovery.
