Come see "Aunt Dan and Lemon" with us in Belfast! The play was written 40 years ago, but it feels like it was written for right now. It's about how ordinary, decent people can end up giving their loyalty to strongmen who promise them the life they want.
Gather before and after the show to talk about it with neighbors, with music by DJ Dee Dee Seahorn.
Wits' End Productions is putting on a staged reading of Wallace Shawn's play, directed by Zafra Whitcomb, at the Basil Burwell Community Theater, 17 Court Street:
Friday, Oct. 23 at 7 PM (social starts at 6)
Saturday, Oct. 24 at 2 PM (social starts at 1:30)
Tickets are $5 to $50, so pick what works for you. All ticket proceeds go to the Waldo County Woodshed and Waldo County Bounty to help keep our neighbors warm and fed this winter.
Get tickets at belfastmaskers.com/auntdan or at the door.
Sponsored by Madison Cook, candidate for House District 39.

Belfast City Council Candidates Forum TONIGHT 7-9 pm at Troy Howard.

The public is invited to attend a candidates' forum to hear from those running for Belfast City Council in the Nov. 3 election. The forum will be on Tuesday, September 29, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Troy Howard Middle School.

Caitlin Hills is running against city council member Mary Mortier in Ward 1.

Neal Harkness, the current councilor of Ward 2, is being challenged by Zach Schmesser.

Kathleen Dunckel is unopposed for the Ward 5 seat.

The forum will be moderated by Micaela Schweitzer-Bluhm, executive director of the nonprofit, nonpartisan Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting, which publishes the Maine Monitor. There will be an opportunity for audience members to submit questions for the candidates.

Belfast Community Radio (WBFY 100.9 FM belfastcommunityradio.org) and Belfast Community Television (BCTV belfastcommunitymedia.org) will record the event and broadcast it several times before the election which takes place Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Important note: Belfast voters elect councilors for all wards, not just for the ward in which they reside.

Amazing that the Maine Wire published this story. Its "reporter" tried to ask gotcha questions and obviously had not read the credible, carefully researched and damming evidence reported by Pro Publica. The Pro Publica reporter clearly, concisely, and effectively responded to every question. Just so interesting that the Maine Wire published this interview that clearly shows the reporting was accurate and directly involves Susan Collins and her campaign in pay to play activities.

Big thanks to Erin for creating the tarp signs now featured on the Unity barn that thousands of people will see as they are leaving the Common Ground Fair! Erin is happy to make more (smaller too) for anyone who wants one to put on their garage or barn, hopefully visible to the public. Custom messages, whatever folks would like - to turn this state into the leader of the blue wave!! Comment here and we'll get back to you with contact info.

Thanks to our friend Joe and Waldo County Dems volunteers who worked today to post hand-made banners on the barn that roughly 65,000 Common Ground Fair attendees will see from about 100 yards out as they are leaving the fair at a crawl! As Joe said, "Susan Collins has got 87 billionaires. THEY are mostly from outtastate except for Leonard Leo. What is it that WE have? WE are Mainers, year-round, and by gorry we have BLUE TARP and DUCK TAPE. 🦤We will use it to pull Hannah and Troy and Matt and Cayla and Chip all the way to the finish line! PS I had some bungee cord too but I had to keep it on the car to hold the passenger doors shut ....." Troy Jackson Matt Dunlap For Congress Cayla Miller for Maine House District 38
