We are still thinking about how much fun we had last weekend during our third annual Kids Day. It was the biggest crowd we've seen yet, and we hope you all had a great time! Thanks to all the staff, volunteers, and donors who make this event happen every year, and to the community who makes us excited to continue hosting such a fun day for kids of all ages. Until next year...

A huge thank you to Cooper Elementary School for having us out yesterday! 🚒🔥
We had an absolute blast talking with the students about Fire Prevention Month, sharing important safety tips, and showing them how we stay safe on the job. The kids asked fantastic questions and were incredibly respectful.
Thank you to the faculty and staff for welcoming us into your classrooms. We love being a part of this community!

What an amazing crowd we had come hang out with us at our Kids Day event today at the Fire Training Center. What an awesome way to spend the day with this community.

We couldn’t have done it without the many volunteers who helped out! Thank you to all!

FIRE PREVENTION WEEK: Charge into Fire Safety!

Fire safety is important outside the home too. To close out the week of fire prevention information, let’s talk airplanes. When you are charging devices while traveling, keep them with you and set them on a hard surface – don’t connect them to your portable charger and leave them in your bag in the overhead. You can imagine what could happen if that battery overheats while in flight. If you notice a problem with something you’re charging, tell a flight attendant right away.

FIRE PREVENTION WEEK: Charge into Fire Safety!

Batteries that power larger items, like power tools or e-bikes, store more energy and therefore could cause more damage if they fail or overheat. Charge these items outside when possible and make sure exits from your home and garage are not blocked. Lithium batteries especially can cause fire to grow quickly, so take extra precaution with items using that type of power.

Your lunch on Saturday at our Kids Day event is covered, thanks to 1-800-BoardUp of Northwest Arkansas. These are the folks that come to a home or business following a fire and make sure everything is secure and closed up. We are so grateful for the donation and all around continued support of our department and others in NWA.

FIRE PREVENTION WEEK: Charge into Fire Safety!

You pick up your phone and it feels hot or smells weird. Did it make a popping noise? Is it warped or shaped differently? Or worse, do you see smoke? All this means your battery could be damaged and there is an increased threat of that device starting a fire. Unplug the device right away (be careful, it is probably be hot!) and move it away from anything that can catch fire or take it outside to cool down.

It's always a good day when we get to hang out with the kiddos. Thanks for having us, Bella Vista Preschool.

FIRE PREVENTION WEEK: Charge into Fire Safety!

When your device is fully charged, it’s time to unplug. Leaving it plugged in longer puts excess stress on the battery, which in turn increases heat, which we know already can lead to a fire. Keep an eye on the percentage and unplug at 100.
