Clearwater Police Department This account is not meant for incident-reporting and is not monitored 24/7. CPD first became accredited in 1998 and has maintained accreditation.

The Clearwater Police Department has earned a national reputation as a leader in the law enforcement field. We use a proactive policing approach to reduce crime and improve the quality of life for our citizens. We remain on the forefront of technology and continue to evolve our policing strategies and practices to adapt to changing crime trends and issues. The standards of the Clearwater Police Department are among the highest in the nation and our officers are among the best trained. CPD is accredited by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA), which symbolizes professionalism, excellence, and competence. To achieve this, we have to demonstrate compliance and efficiency in approximately 275 rigorous law enforcement standards. We are the third largest law enforcement agency in Pinellas County with 231 sworn police officers and 127 civilian employees; averaging over 167,000 calls for service each year.

Our Tuesday Traffic Safety Tip is reminding drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists to keep an eye out for one another to reduce the number of crashes. To that end, the Clearwater Police Department has received a $30,439 contract to make the streets of the city safer for bicyclists and pedestrians.

Pinellas County ranks in the top 25 counties in the state for traffic crashes resulting in serious and fatal injuries to pedestrians and bicyclists. In an effort to protect the safety of these most vulnerable road users, the police department will conduct High Visibility Enforcement Details (HVE). Those started Sept. 2 and will continue through May 7, 2027.

This area is over-represented in traffic crashes resulting in serious and fatal injuries to pedestrians and bicyclists. HVE details are funded through a contract with the University of North Florida in partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation's focused initiative to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety. The goal of this enforcement effort is to increase awareness of and compliance with traffic laws that protect the safety of pedestrians and bicyclists.

Some of the targeted locations include Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard, Drew Street, Court Street and Missouri Avenue.

Enforcement efforts will focus primarily on education to drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists. However, violations may result in citations depending on the circumstances.

Remember:

Drivers: Obey speed limits, move-over laws, never drive impaired, and always watch for pedestrians and bicyclists.

Bicyclists: Obey traffic laws, ride in the direction of traffic, and use lights when riding at night.

Pedestrians: Cross in crosswalks or at intersections, obey pedestrian signals, and make sure you are visible to drivers when walking at night.

Did you know you can register your home camera system with us in the event we need help in your neighborhood? Think about how many people have cameras these days, and think about how many times we investigate runaway kids or elderly people who have wandered away from their home. Your camera could be instrumental in finding those people, or offering clues on which direction they went. Images captured could alsobe valuable in lots of other situations, including stolen cars, vehicle burglaries or residential break-ins. Registering your camera doesn't mean we can access your camera; it simply gives us a list to see who has cameras in case something occurs in your neighborhood. This was the view this morning outside the police department of the SpaceX launch from Cape Canaveral. Quite the eerie "jellyfish effect" that was seen all across the Tampa Bay area and beyond!
