Update! Now Pending! We knew that wouldn’t take long!!
It has been quite a ride here at Whispering Woods for the last 24 hours. As most of you know, Reign was due on this coming Saturday. Monday afternoon about 3:00 she delivered an amazing blue Merle female, very healthy who nursed immediately. We were concerned when she went into labor that early, but relieved when we saw a beautiful, normal, healthy puppy. We are always delighted with “day births”, got a cup of coffee and settled in for the birthing. Then things took a turn—2 1/2 hours later we still had no more puppies. That’s time for a call to the vet. When I arrived at the vet to pick up some oxytocin I called Gary who said he had just delivered a very large black Tri female and couldn’t talk to me. When I arrived at home he told me she was born unresponsive—he had done everything he could but could not revive her. So we cried and gave Reign a shot of oxytocin to move her delivery along. An hour later, nothing, she was just happy as a little lark feeding and cleaning her new little girl. We called the vet who said if she seems fine and is not pushing bring her in the morning for an Xray. We would have thought she was finished except when we had her confirmation of pregnancy ultrasound done at 5 weeks the vet said he thought he saw three, which at that stage of pregnancy usually means at least six babies. We stayed with her all night—she ate all her food, drank her water, and remained content. In the he morning, off to the vet. X-ray showed she was empty—which at that point we were thankful for—any unborn babies would call for a c-section. We were also very thankful for a natural delivery since many times a litter that small requires a c-section because either the babies are too big or the mother does not go into labor. So, all in all, what could have been a very bad situation turned out ok, and we are so thankful that our beautiful Reign is fine, as well as her sweet little girl, who we have named Anne! We will contact depositors on our waiting list who have requested a BMF from the top down. I am guessing that lucky person on the top of the list will be very happy!
