🌀💨 Hurricane Isaias is certainly making its presence felt just offshore and downriver in Plaquemines Parish!

🌪️ These wind reports are a powerful reminder of just how serious hurricane conditions can be, especially in our coastal communities.

🌀🌧️ HURRICANE ISAIAS – STAY SAFE, PLAQUEMINES PARISH! 🌧️🌀

📢 Please take a moment to read the latest update from the Plaquemines Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.

💨 While no major issues have been reported in our parish as of 11:00 AM, wind gusts have reached 47 mph in Buras and 53 mph in Venice.

⚠️ A few important safety reminders:

🏠 Stay indoors when winds are strong.

🌳 Watch for falling limbs, flying debris, and downed power lines.

🚗 Avoid unnecessary travel, especially in areas experiencing strong winds or rising tides.

📱 Keep your phones charged and stay informed through official parish updates.

🐾 Don't forget to keep your pets safe, too!🐈 🐕 🐎 🐓

🗺️ **THE PLACES WE PASS EVERY DAY HAVE STORIES TO TELL…**

Along a quiet ten-mile stretch of old Highway 23 lie stories of Plaquemines Parish that many of us have never heard.

**Tomorrow night, Tuesday, October 6**, Parish Historian **Rod Lincoln** will take us on **“A Historical Tour Through Homeplace, Nairn and Empire”** — exploring the noteworthy places, people and events of these communities before Hurricanes Camille and Katrina.

🍊 Discover the story of what was once the **largest citrus farm in the United States**.

🎖️ Learn about **World War II prisoner-of-war camps** once located here.

⚔️ Find out where a **Civil War hospital** stood.

⛪ Hear the histories of two remarkable Catholic churches — including the parish’s first English-speaking Catholic church and another established for Eastern European immigrants.

🏠 Explore historic homes and forgotten landmarks, the
**The Burrwood Corps of Engineers Administration Building
**The Mississippi River toll lock
** Many other places whose stories might otherwise be lost to time.

And these are only a few of the stories!

📸 The presentation will feature **nearly 200 historic photographs and images**, including early maps, buildings, people and sites from Homeplace, Nairn and Empire.

Whether you **grew up there, live there now, have family ties to the area, or have simply driven Highway 23 a thousand times**, you may never look at this familiar stretch of Plaquemines Parish quite the same way again.
