This week we are highlighting the Neighborhood Watch Program and their President, Samantha Briggs.

Northside Neighborhood Watch (currently the only active NW group in Logan County), is about more than watching out for our neighborhood, it's about coming together to make it a safer, stronger, more connected, and more vibrant place for everyone.

Northside Neighborhood Watch (NNW) was created with a vision of bringing residents
and visitors of Chippewa Park and Island View together through safety initiatives,
recreation, community events, fundraising, and neighborhood improvement projects.

At the heart of NNW are our volunteers- the neighbors who give their time, energy, and
talents to make a difference. From organizing community activities and supporting
fundraising efforts to participate in cleanups and improvements, our volunteer's work
together to protect and enhance the places we all call home.

Community Starts With Connection

A strong neighborhood is built when people know one another, look out for one another,
and take pride in where they live. NNW creates opportunities for neighbors to meet, work
together, share experiences, and build lasting connections.

Every cleanup, fundraiser, event, and volunteer hour contributes to something bigger: a
neighborhood where people feel safe, connected, welcome, and proud to belong.

Together, we can make a difference.
Together, we can make our neighborhood
better.
Together, we are Northside Neighborhood Watch.

If you are interested in starting a NW group in your community, reach out to Tammy Nicholl, Citizen Corps Manager at Logan County EMA at [email protected].

Logan County EMA and Citizen Corps want to highlight and appreciate some really awesome people who volunteer for their community in a variety of ways.
This week we want highlight the Medical Reserve Corps and all that they do to support the work of first responders in a time of extreme need or emergency. You can be a medical or non-medical person and serve on MRC. Together with the Logan County Health District, we provide the training that you will need as part of an incident structure. If this sounds like something you would like to learn more about, please contact Tammy Nicholl, Program Manager for Citizen Corps.

September is Ohio Preparedness Month and their theme this year is "Prepare for Your Family."
It is important that everyone spend some time with your family planning for the what if's of weather, power outage, or other disasters that might cause you to have to leave home or shelter in place for a period of time.
Planning is the best way to be ready. Gather the supplies, have the conversations, and dont be caught off guard!

Logan County Friends and Neighbors!!
During National Preparedness month (September) we want to remind you that "Standing Ready" starts with YOU! It starts at home!
Ready.gov is a great resource for things to include in your "go bag" should you have to leave your home in an emergency situation. Build your plan, have the conversations now!
Waiting till a disaster strikes is NOT an effective plan.

Among several other important causes, September is National Preparedness Month.

This year’s theme is, “Americans Stand Ready.”

The theme reflects the spirit of unity, resilience and resourcefulness that make our country strong. It’s a reminder that each of us can make a difference by taking proactive steps before a disaster strikes, and encouraging loved ones to do the same, Americans can contribute to the safety and security of the entire nation.

Preparedness is everyone’s responsibility, and disasters and emergencies can happen at any time, anywhere, and sometimes without warning.

We, at the Logan County EMA will be posting a number of messages and attending some events to encourage all of us to plan and prepare ahead for emergency situations.
Stay tuned...

Following the severe storms and flooding that have impacted Logan County starting August 11th through today, the EMA will collect damage reports on the flood impacts to Individuals via a self-report link included below.

This is a very accelerated process due to state officials wanting to move quickly for help across the state of Ohio. It is not final, or a guarantee that Logan County will be included in a declaration that may be issued, but it will get our information in for consideration. We do not have time to complete traditional door to door damage assessment by the deadline, so I will include reports for any properties that I already know about, and anything that gets submitted through the self-report link. Then we will work to get the rest later.

Anyone who has experienced flood damage to their home from storms between August 11 and August 21, please submit a report and pictures. Select “Start a New Application”. Note: This is NOT an application for assistance from anyone, that is just the term used by Futurity software for completing a new self-report.

Please answer all of the questions and specifically when they ask if you are insured, say NO if it is not a Flood Insurance Policy. Provide pictures of your damage – this is very important. Here is the link for individuals to report flood damage for Logan County: https://oh-logan.orioncentral.com/SelfReporter

The Joint Preliminary Damage Assessment with Ohio EMA and SBA/FEMA is planned to begin on Monday. Because our damage just occurred late this week, we are very short on time since other counties had already started the process last week when we did not have enough damage to be included.

Thank you for your assistance.

PLEASE PREPARE NOW! More rain is coming this evening and tonight and we do not have capacity for it. Flooding and Flash Flooding are very likely!

Many of you took action before the last round on Thursday night and it really helped that you moved your cars to higher ground and put your valuables up or took them to a safe place. You did great!

This round will probably rise faster than the last – and it will arrive as it gets dark, so please take precautions again this afternoon.

If you live in a floodplain, or an area that will have standing water after heavy rain, please:
1. Move vehicles to high ground.
2. Gather important items and take them to a second floor, or someplace safe.
3. Stay informed on weather conditions and register for Logan County ALERT to receive emergency alerts at: https://signup.hyper-reach.com/hyper_reach/sign_up_page_2/?id=30223 Select the box for Weather alerts to receive Tornado Warnings and Flash Flood Warnings directly from NWS with no delay.
4. Consider packing a go-bag with things you will need if you aren’t at home – clothes, medicine, baby needs. It can sit by the door and be put away later if you don’t need it.
5. Please do not drive through flooded roadways – Turn Around Don’t Drown!

Our ground is saturated from all the rain over the last two weeks, and we already had some street flooding in the county. While the area looks better and streets have re-opened, the Great Miami River continues to fill up as the water can't drain out as fast as it is pouring in.

FLOODING WILL HAPPEN FASTER THIS TIME because we have no room for water to drain.

Please take action and prepare now!

[4:31 PM] Additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected through the weekend.
