Our E&S techs have been busy out in the field this fall! Pictured here is Jordyn in Snow Shoe Township inspecting a site. Not only was there plenty of beaver activity, but also some cool plant species like this sundew! Did you know sundew is a carnivorous plant native to PA? Two different species can be found in our state: Drosera rotundifolia & Drosera intermedia. Keep an eye out next time you’re hiking around in the woods for neat plants like this one!

This past weekend, CCCD partnered with State College Bird Club to host a bird walk through Penns Prairie. We highlighted one of our upcoming lawn to meadow conversion projects, which includes converting parts of the mowed lawn near the playground into native meadow with the addition of native tree species. Not only will this help to infiltrate and clean stormwater runoff, but it’ll serve as valuable habitat for grassland bird species and pollinators.

Special shoutout to PA DEP for the CAP grant funding we needed to make this lawn conversion project happen!

S.T.R.E.A.M. Keepers 2026 was full of learning and exploring!

CCCD, in collaboration with Spring Creek Chapter of Trout Unlimited and West Branch Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association, hosted this event at Black Moshannon State Park. Students had the opportunity to learn about Black Moshannon Creek, calculate stream flow, collect and identify macroinvertebrates, fly tie, participate in fly casting lessons, make bracelets, and try their hand at fly fishing (with success!!) 🍃🎣

This event was made possible by funding we received from Keystone Chapter of the Soil and Water Conservation Society.
