Bellevue City Schools At BCS, we are committed to educating every student, every day with intent, integrity and purpose.

Bellevue City Schools is a rural school district focused on preparing our students for success in any environment. Pride and tradition are paired with technology and innovation to prepare our students for a global economy and excellence in any field they choose. The Bellevue School District began in a one-room log house in 1827. The first class to graduate from Bellevue High School was in 1870 with two students receiving their diploma. Today, the Bellevue City School District serves a population of approximately 2,061 students, encompasses 115 square miles and comprises three school buildings - Bellevue Elementary, Bellevue Middle and Bellevue High School. The Bellevue City School District’s student-to-teacher ratio is 17:1 (compared with the state average of 18:1) and the district employs more than 150 certified educators and 80 classified employees (bus drivers, cooks, custodians, maintenance workers, instructional aides, and secretaries), making the district one of the largest employers in the Bellevue area. At Bellevue, we hold the belief that all students can reach the highest level of achievement; we have expectations of excellence and integrity; we know that leadership leads to success; we have a lifelong commitment to helping students be college and career ready; we value engagement because it is the key to learning; we possess the vision to be the most excellent school district in Ohio; we remain united in trust and respect for all individuals; and we hold an enthusiasm for high-quality teaching and learning. Every Bellevue graduate is celebrated for being either Enrolled, Employed or Enlisted upon graduation. We focus on the whole child and value social emotional learning, family support and engagement. We know that strong extra-curricular and co-curricular programs are an important part of the school experience. Bellevue takes great pride in offering excellent athletics, arts, Future Farmers of America, Family Career, and Community Leaders of America, leadership and music programs. We value all programs and will help students find their passion knowing this will strengthen our academic performance. We value the hard work of our community members and strive to provide the highest quality education to our students while being good stewards of the funds that our residents trust us to use with intent, integrity, and purpose.

A little Halloween fun for our staff! 🎃❤️

Professional Development Day this week included a sweet surprise! In between learning sessions and lunch, our staff had the chance to enjoy a little trick-or-treating around the building.

Staff members left treats outside their classroom and office doors for their fellow colleagues to enjoy, adding a little extra fun and Halloween spirit to the day! 🍬👻

It's the little moments that make our Bellevue community so special!

Financial Fact Friday!

“Why Can’t That Money Pay for This?”

If a school district has money for a building project, why can’t those dollars help pay for teachers, classroom supplies or everyday expenses?

The answer comes down to the rules attached to the funding. School dollars are kept in separate funds, and some of those dollars can only be spent for specific purposes.

Think of it like a set of envelopes, each with its own instructions:

Permanent Improvement Fund: Pays for eligible long-lasting improvements and purchases, such as roofs, buses and equipment. These dollars cannot pay for regular staff salaries and benefits.

General Fund: Supports the everyday operation of our schools, including staff salaries and benefits, utilities, classroom supplies and transportation.

Grant Funds: Support specific programs and services and must follow the requirements of each grant.

So a district can have money set aside for a roof repair while still facing challenges covering everyday expenses in its General Fund. Money in one fund can’t simply be moved to pay for something else.

At Bellevue City Schools, careful planning helps us use each funding source the right way while supporting our students and protecting our community’s investment.

A sundae creation worth talking about! ❤️

Bellevue Elementary fifth grader Westley, a student in Mrs. Fries’ class, recently had his response featured on NewsDepth, a student news program used in social studies!

NewsDepth’s “Inbox” question challenged students to invent their own sweet or savory sundae after learning about the Iowa State Fair’s hot beef sundae. Westley brought his creativity to the table with a unique combination of General Tso’s chicken, rice, sushi, extra hot sauce, and maybe even a little parsley! 🌶️

Congratulations, Westley, on being featured! ❤️

These Redmen were the top students in their homerooms for completing i-Ready Math lessons during October, and their hard work earned them a well-deserved pizza party! 🎉

We love celebrating our students’ dedication, perseverance, and commitment to learning. Congratulations to these math stars for putting in the work and reaching their goals! Keep up the great work, Redmen! ❤️

Welcome to Bellevue City Schools! ❤️

Help us welcome Mrs. Madison Layne to the Bellevue family! Mrs. Layne is joining our team as a member of our cafeteria staff, and we’re excited to have her as part of our Redmen community. 🍎

As Mrs. Layne begins this school year, we asked her a few questions to help our Bellevue community get to know her!

What are you most excited about this school year?

“I am so excited to see everyone’s smiling faces!”

Why did you choose to work in our district?

“I have lived in Bellevue since 2016, and my daughter is in kindergarten here at Bellevue this year! It is such a great, loving community!”

Please join us in giving Mrs. Layne a warm welcome! We’re so happy to have her on our team and look forward to a wonderful year together! ❤️
