It's Mobile Integrated Health (MIH) week! Let's take a quick look back on where our program started, where we are today and celebrate the people who make it all possible!

Bellevue Fire CARES (Community Advocates for Referral and Education Services) began in 2012 with a simple mission to cut down repeat calls to 911 by connecting residents to the right resources at the right time. In 2017, we added on-scene support through CARES101, a dispatched unit with professional social workers. In 2023, after a pilot period, we launch our co-response team, CCAT (Community Crisis Assistance Team). And in 2024, we added an Opioid Outreach Social Worker.

And that's just the full-time staff. Bellevue Fire CARES also has a practicum program for Master's of Social Work candidates who assist in providing case management.

If you've ever wondered who those red-jacketed helpers are out in the community, that's our CARES team, showing up, checking in and making connections that matter!

September is National Preparedness Month. And while the month is wrapping up, it is always appropriate to ask "Who depends on you?".

In an emergency, we rely on family, friends, neighbors and first responders. A little preparation can make a big difference when it matters most.

If it feels daunting, you're not alone! But there are a few easy steps to getting started:
• Make or update your household emergency communications plan
• Build an emergency kit with two weeks worth of supplies
• Check in on neighbors who may need extra help

Preparedness is a partnership! Learn more at the links in the comments!
