Hunter Rescued Near Galena Summit

On the evening of October 12, 2026, crews from Blaine County Fire & Rescue’s Ketchum Station, along with Smiley Creek Fire and the City of Sun Valley Fire Department, responded to the Galena Summit area to rescue a hunter suffering from a lower leg injury.

Crews were able to safely rescue the hunter, who was then transported by BCFR ambulance to St. Luke’s Wood River Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment.

We want to recognize the hunter for being well-prepared for the conditions. He was equipped for winter weather, carried a way to call for help, and had let someone know where he planned to hunt.

This incident is a great reminder of the importance of being prepared when heading into the backcountry, especially as winter weather moves into our mountains. Proper clothing, a reliable means of communication, and letting someone know your plans can make a big difference when an emergency happens.

A big thank you to Smiley Creek Fire and the City of Sun Valley Fire Department for their teamwork and assistance!

Stay safe, stay prepared, and enjoy the outdoors!

A huge thank you to the Indian Creek HOA for putting together a BBQ to thank all valley firefighters for their work on the Ohio Fire this summer.

We truly appreciate the hospitality, great food, and opportunity to spend some time with members of the Indian Creek community under much better circumstances.

The Ohio Fire was a significant incident that brought together firefighters, partner agencies, and community members. Support like this means a lot to our crews and reminds us why we are proud to serve the communities of Blaine County.

Thank you, Indian Creek HOA, for thinking of all valley firefighters and for a great evening!

Today, October 1, BC South Fire Protection District and Ketchum Fire District officially consolidate to form the Blaine County Fire District, operating publicly as Blaine County Fire & Rescue.

For residents, the same firefighters and paramedics will respond from the same stations. In an emergency, continue to call 911.

Behind the scenes, we now have one command structure, one training program, one set of policies, and one budget.

“The credit belongs to the community, our elected officials, and especially the firefighters and paramedics who have already set the conditions for Blaine County Fire & Rescue to be a resilient, efficient, and effective organization.” — Fire Chief Kevan Crawley

The Hailey Fire Department continues to work alongside BCFR under the joint powers agreement. Hailey voters will decide on November 3 whether the city joins the new district.

BCFR Responds to Residential Fire in Hailey

At approximately 6:10 p.m. Sunday, September 27, Blaine County Fire & Rescue was dispatched to a residential deck fire in the Woodside neighborhood of Hailey.

Upon arrival, crews found a deck on the south side of the home on fire, with flames spreading up the exterior of the house. A neighboring home was also threatened. Firefighters quickly went to work, protecting the neighboring structure from damage and knocking down the main body of the fire within approximately 10 minutes.

The fire had extended into the attic and crawl space, but crews were able to extinguish the fire in those areas and prevent it from spreading further into the home.

The fire was contained at approximately 6:53 p.m. Crews remained on scene until approximately 7:52 p.m. checking for hot spots and ensuring the scene was safe.

The homeowners have been displaced due to the fire. The Hailey Volunteer Firefighters Association and Wood River Firefighters Association have provided five nights of hotel accommodations through their burnout assistance funds.

BCFR was assisted by the City of Sun Valley Fire Department and City of Bellevue Fire Department. The Hailey Police Department and Bellevue Marshal’s Office provided traffic control and scene support.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire was investigated and determined to be accidental.

Thank you to all of the agencies and personnel who assisted with the response.
