Caldecott and Newbery winning 20th century author and illustrator Arnold Lobel’s (b. May 22) stories and characters still charm us and warm our hearts nearly 40 years after his death. Lobel’s contribution to early childhood literacy is remarkable and enduring, and we are reminded of the necessity of language and literacy to bring us closer to recognizing, identifying, and sharing our joy. Reading is joy! Find out more on the Library blog at https://library.bellevue.edu/articles/arnold-lobels-birthday-may-22/

Bellevue University is 60 years young, but has gone through multiple expressions of its identity. Built to serve local students and accommodate military personnel, Bellevue College was chartered in 1965 to offer something to meet the “growing demand for higher education” (Wilson, 2006, p. 19). Look at how we’ve changed!—but our focus stays the same: students’ “paths to the future, and our passion for the many ways education helps people achieve their hopes and dreams” (Bellevue University Archives, 2014, p. 3).
