Yes, we finally got some rain, but it is still dangerously dry out there. Fire restrictions in Larimer County have been extended to September 8.

Please note that campfires, even in a firepit or fire ring, are currently *not allowed* whether you're at home or out in the national forest. You *are* permitted to use a gas or liquid fueled device like a propane stove or propane fire pit.

Thank you for protecting our homes and natural resources!

LARIMER COUNTY FIRE RESTRICTIONS EXTENDED: MAY 6-SEPTEMBER 8, 2026

The danger of wildfire, forest, and grass fires remains extremely high due to above-normal temperatures, extended drought, and persistently windy, dry conditions. On recommendation by the Larimer County Sheriff, the Board of Larimer County Commissioners voted 2-0 on Tuesday to extend fire restrictions to September 8, 2026.

CURRENTLY RESTRICTED:
❌Contained Open Fires. This includes open fire in a permanently constructed, stationary masonry or metal fireplaces specifically designed for the purpose of combustion
❌Uncontained Open Fires, including outdoor charcoal, pellet, and wood stoves/grills
❌Smoking in the open is not allowed, including on trails, parks and open spaces
❌Combustible devices
❌Operating or using any device with an internal or external combustion engine without a spark arrest device properly installed and in effective order

CURRENTLY ALLOWED:
✔️Fireplaces or wood stoves located inside a residence
✔️Gas or liquid fueled fires, including grills and camping stoves
✔️Open burning (official forest management purposes)
✔️Execution of authorized burn permits
✔️“Permissible fireworks” which do not leave the ground, as defined in Colorado State Statute (C.R.S. 24-33.5-2001(11))

If you're performing one of the allowed activities, please use good judgment! Just because you can doesn't mean you should... assess your surrounding environment, wind, and weather conditions to make a smart decision. Everyone plays a role in preventing wildfire.

These restrictions ONLY apply to unincorporated Larimer County; municipalities (towns/cities) set their own restrictions. Read the full resolution and check out an interactive map here: https://www.larimer.gov/spotlights/2026/07/21/larimer-county-extends-fire-restrictions

The RCVFD is thrilled to be a recipient--for the second year in a row!--of a $10,000 grant from Proper Whiskey's One For All program! Last Wednesday, company representative Kimberly Jordan visited Station 1 to meet some of the responders and board members, and present us with a Giant Check.

The One For All program is all about giving directly to fire departments like ours to help cover the cost of essential safety gear, life-saving equipment, and critical station repairs. Through their generosity and kindness, the RCVFD has been able to purchase not one but two brand-new battery-powered extricators--what you might know as the "jaws of life." These will prove invaluable when responding to vehicle accidents and other emergencies throughout our area.

We are excited and grateful for this support and recognition from Proper No. 12 Whiskey. We raise a glass to you in thanks! 🥃👩‍🚒🥃🧑‍🚒

Thank you to everyone who attended our Wildfire Community Preparedness Day Open House! We had a great turnout and enjoyed chatting with new residents as well as long-time neighbors. Members of our Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) Team were on-hand to explain the status of the planning process and collect feedback. Other responders chatted with attendees about our equipment, fire mitigation tips, and anything else people wanted to know.

Special thanks go out to our friends at Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Larimer County Sheriff's Office, and Colorado State Forest Service, who brought lots of useful information about how to enjoy and take care of the beautiful mountains and forests we call home. 🏔️🌲🫎🦉

A huge shout-out goes to the volunteers who put this whole event together! 🥳🥳🥳 Do you live in our response area and wish you could do something to help out, but you're not quite up to fighting fires or doing medical care? Just reach out--our volunteers do so many things!!
