Belmont Public Library Founded in 1893, our library has proudly served residents from the same building since 1927. Come discover, learn, and grow with us — we’re glad you’re here!

We’re here to connect our community with resources, programs, and services for all ages. The Belmont Library was established in 1893 and originally housed in the back of a store on Main Street. A few years later, the library was moved into the upstairs of the Fire Department Hose House where it shared quarters with the Selectmen's Office. In 1927, the owners of the Belmont Hosiery Company, George E. Duffy and Walter E. Duffy, made a gift to the town of a new Library Building. Architects were Wells and Hudson and the style chosen was Colonial Revival. The Hose House was moved to another site and the current Library building was erected. On February 10, 1928, the new Library was dedicated. Not only did the Duffy brothers grant the town with a new building, but they also gifted funds to maintain the building into the future. Furthermore, the brothers purchased a beautiful tall clock that had been made by clockmaker Elisha Smith of Sanbornton for the Library, which is still there today.

The Story Keeper by Kelly Rimmer

In the aftermath of a tumultuous year, Fiona Winslow finds solace in the decaying grandeur of Wurimbirra, the rambling family estate she once called home. Intent on restoring it, she discovers the keys to more than just the dilapidated mansion—beneath the crumbling plaster and dust are secrets that have been buried for a generation.

When a curious book, The Midnight Estate, catches her attention in her late uncle’s library, Fiona is plunged into a tale that mirrors her own—a story of love, loss and betrayal. But as the lines between fiction and reality blur, Fiona must ask herself: Is the true mystery the one hidden within the walls of her ancestral home, or is it within the pages of a book that chose her as much as she chose it?

Told in a dual narrative and set against the Gothic backdrop of Wurimbirra, Kelly Rimmer, bestselling author of The Things We Cannot Say, weaves an intricate and compelling tale, inviting readers into the heart of a family’s deepest secrets with an absorbing book-within-a-book mystery. (Goodreads)

Hillary

Variation by Rebecca Yarros

Synapsis - Elite ballerina Allie Rousseau is no stranger to pressure. With her mother’s eyes always watching, perfection was expected, no matter the cost. But when an injury jeopardizes all she’s sacrificed for, Allie returns to her summer home to heal and recover. But the memories she’s tried to forget rush in and threaten to take her under.

As a Coast Guard rescue swimmer, Hudson Ellis knows that hesitation can mean the difference between life and death. He’s always prided himself on being in the right place at the right time, especially when it came to Allie Rousseau…until the night he left for basic. After the biggest regret of his life, the secrets he keeps mean he can never be with the one woman he wants more than his next breath.

When Hudson’s niece shows up on Allie’s doorstep, desperate to find her birth mother, Allie finds herself in an unimaginable position. Allie and Hudson’s past and present might be endlessly complicated. The thread that tied them to each other all those years ago may have unraveled, but the truth could pull them back together, or drive them apart forever.

My favorite quote: "Truth always differs depending on who’s telling the story, and in complicated situations, there are countless variations."

Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman

This is the novel published over 20 years ago that inspired the movie of the same in 1998, Practical Magic. The novel was popular but the movie was a slow starter that eventually gained traction and has been a fan favorite for decades. The novel Practical Magic was unique for the time and has stood the test of time. What a premise, a generations of Owens women blamed for everything that went wrong in their small Massachusetts town. Even the two youngest Owen women throughout their childhood and into adulthood having the same issues. As children no one would befriend them, include them in their fun and games or, for that matter, get near them. They grew thick-skinned but still had hurt feelings. Their elderly aunts who raised them could care less. There was something very different about the Owens women and the town was soon going to find out what it was.

No more info - while the movies (Practical Magic and Practical Magic 2) are both well done, the books are just a tad better. No surprise. This one is worth the read so check it out!
