This morning we learned of the passing of long time soil technician Rob Heller. Rob was passionate about conservation and in his “retired” years, would help with educational days, worked on pollinator habitats, and promoted our events. He was a mentor to new employees and called often just to check in on how things were going at the office.

Today I got to be a “student shuffler” and accompany one of the classes at the Watershed Field Day hosted by Lincoln County Conservation District. This was a very interesting day and I am definitely borrowing a couple of the presentations. Thanks for the invite, Nancy!

K Road (Tipton Black Top) is closed from 250 RD to 280 RD. Please make other arrangements to go around this area if you need to travel in the area southwest of Beloit, preferably blacktops. Do not attempt to travel on dirt roads, your vehicle will be stuck there for many days and possibly ticketed as well.

This is a reminder to everyone that you could fall into a deep hole while traveling in the dark stormy nights, possibly storm chasing, looking into the dark skies not paying attention to the roadway in front of you. Best thing for everyone is to stay safely indoors and off the roads during hazardous weather conditions. Thank you and stay safe.

This morning we presented the Soil Tunnel to K-8 students at St. John's Catholic School-Beloit, KS. We talked about what soil is made up, soil structure, all the life found in healthy soil, why soils are important, and how to keep soil healthy. Thank you, Jewell County Conservation District for helping. Besides helping with the tunnel, Sherry shared a soil book with the younger grades.
Always happy to have the opportunity to spread the word about conservation and stewardship.
Thank you, St. John’s, for the invitation.
