The members of your Dunham Volunteer Fire Department routinely invest our time in mastering the skills of firefighter fighting and emergency medical service. We also routinely invest our funds in purchasing and maintaining the various apparatus, equipment and supplies necessary to carry out those firefighting and EMS duties. We do this with the hope that we will never have to use our skills or equipment to provide service to our citizens or others in the area, by way of mutual aid.
Today, four members of the department joined with our mutual aid partners from the Barlow, Little Hocking and Wesley Volunteer Fire Departments to take part in an active shooter training, along with the Washington County Sheriff's Office at Warren High School. Not only was the training good for law enforcement, fire and EMS personnel who were present, but it was also helpful to the administrators, teachers and students at the school.
We hope and pray that the scenario we dealt with today never plays out at our school's or at any other school in America. However, if we are faced with such an event, we will have experience, be it only practice.
We owe a special thank you to the students who participated as role players in the scenario. All of the first responders were adults; the young men and ladies (students) who participated were great.
