On October 12-13, Belton Firefighters visited Belton First Baptist Wee School for our annual fire safety event. The Wee students spent time learning about what firefighters look like in bunker gear, how to crawl low under smoke, completing the junior firefighter obstacle course and spraying water from a booster hose. Mrs. Reide, and her staff, do a great job and we look forward to this visit each year.

🔋 Fully charged? Time to unplug. Leaving a device plugged in longer than needed can increase heat and stress on its battery.

During Fire Prevention Week, the South Carolina Fire Marshals Association encourages everyone to make unplugging part of their charging routine. For more info: fpw.org.

🚲 Charging an e-bike, scooter, or power tool? Charge it outside when possible, and never let it block an exit.

These larger batteries store more energy, so a fire can grow quickly if one fails. Keep your way out clear every time you charge. For more info: fpw.org.

🔋🪫Know when to stop using a device. If the battery smells strange, feels unusually hot, makes popping noises, changes shape or color, or starts smoking, stop using it immediately.

If you can do so safely, move the device away from anything that could catch fire. A damaged battery can overheat and start a fire. If you see smoke or fire, get to safety and call 911.
