๐งก EVERY CHILD MATTERS ๐งก
Yesterday, our students and staff gathered outside around the Spirit Fire in recognition of Orange Shirt Day and Every Child Matters.
Together, we took time to honor and remember the Indigenous children who were taken from their families and communities and forced into boarding and residential schools. We remember the children who never made it home, the survivors who carried those experiences with them, and the families and generations who continue to feel the impacts today.
Kwe, Michael, and Waagoshens shared with our students about Orange Shirt Day, its meaning, and why we wear orange. Kwe also shared a beautiful song to honor the children, survivors, families, and ancestors. ๐งก
Gathering around the Spirit Fire gave our students an opportunity to listen, learn, remember, and understand why this day is so important.
We wear orange because Every Child Matters โ those who survived, those who never returned home, and the generations who continue healing today.
May we continue teaching our young people the truth, carrying our culture forward, and honoring the children who came before them.
Every child mattered then. Every child matters now. Every child will always matter. ๐งก
