🚒🔥 Today, we kicked off our first couple of fire prevention visits with students! We started the morning at Station 3 and wrapped up the afternoon with a visit to Abingdon Elementary School.

We enjoyed the opportunity to connect with students, share important fire safety tips, and help teach the next generation how to stay safe.

Thank you to everyone who helped make these visits a success! ❤️🚒

This afternoon was all about training with our Junior Members! 🚒

Our Maritime Incident Response Team provided an overview of the program, followed by basic knot-tying skills and underway training aboard our Fireboat ‘Marine 2’.

Our Juniors are an important part of our organization and our future. We’re proud to help develop the next generation of firefighters!

One of our members faced the tragic loss of her daughter in a fire at her home recently. In addition, our member and her husband are both enduring serious health problems with enormous accompanying expenses. Please consider coming out to this dinner on October 24th or donating whatever you can. Thank you.

CAN OUR FIRE TRUCK REACH YOU?

Our crews have recently encountered inaccessible driveways that made it difficult to reach homes quickly during an emergency.

When you call 911, you expect help to get to you. But our fire trucks and ambulances are much larger than a passenger vehicle.

🌳 Overgrown trees and low-hanging branches
🌿 Brush growing into the driveway
🚗 Parked vehicles or other obstacles
🛣️ Narrow driveways or tight turns

Here’s a simple test:

If your car can barely make it down your driveway, our fire trucks and ambulances will likely not be able to make it down either.

Please take a few minutes to look at your driveway from an emergency responder’s perspective. Trim back trees and branches, clear brush, and make sure there is a clear path from the road to your home.

**MIRT Training York River**

Our Maritime Incident Response Team spent last night on the water working on some important skills including nighttime small boat navigation, deploying and recovering a rescuer, and responding to a vessel taking on water.

Training at night adds another challenge, so getting out there and practicing these skills is important.

Thanks to everyone who came out and put in the work!
