A safe and anonymous syringe-sharps disposal collection will take place at the Bennington Transfer Station, 903 Houghton Lane in Bennington on October 17 from noon to 2:30 p.m.

If you or someone you know uses syringes to administer prescription medications, this event will accept used, new, or expired syringes at no cost. Syringes that administer pet-animal medications (veterinarian prescriptions) will be accepted.

To increase free, anonymous, and safe syringe & sharps disposal and in recognition of the many prescription medications using syringes, such as diabetic, weight loss, blood thinners, autoimmune, and others, Bennington County Solid Waste Alliance (BCSWA) is hosting the event with The Collaborative and Southern Vermont Aids Project.

Not sure what belongs in the trash? Think twice before you toss it!

Vermont bans a number of materials from the landfill, including food scraps, recyclables, paint, batteries, electronics, fluorescent bulbs, tires, and more. Many of these items have recycling, composting, or special disposal options.

The Waste Not Guide is a great quick reference for figuring out what to do with materials that don’t belong in the trash. You can also use our online A-Z list (https://bcswa.org/recycling/search-the-a-z-list/) to find local disposal and recycling options.
