White Mountain Fire Protection District has been providing mutual aid resources to augment State and Federal Agencies for many years. This is a commitment we do not take lightly. Our crews must have the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform a variety of tasks when assigned, mostly in areas they are not familiar with. These assignments also bring valuable experience back to our own district. This summer was no exception. WMFPD accepted a 2 week assignment to the California Desert District of the BLM which provides fire responses to over 11 million acres from Apple Valley to the border of Mexico. White Mountain Engine 3033, staffed by Engine Boss Matt Allen, Engineer James Janney, and Firefighter/EMT Brian Grevenkamp delivered well beyond expectations for the BLM in this complex environment. Please take a minute to read the Crew Performance Review given to our crew by the BLM CDD Fire Supervisor and join with me in the pride I have for our local fire department.

From fires to traffic accidents. It has been a busy couple of days for White Mountain Fire. Thankfully this driver was wearing a seat belt and the air bags did their job. Only minor injuries to the driver. Remember to always buckle up!

White Mountain Fire units were dispatched this afternoon to reported smoke 10 miles west of Boundary Peak by a hiker. As units were responding, multiple reporting parties reported seeing smoke and flames off of Hwy 120 near Black Lake. Arriving White Mountain resources engaged the fire on the north flank slowing the fires spread. Additional resources from BLM, Cal Fire and Forest Service arrived on scene and along with multiple air resources were able to stop the fire’s progression. Fire resources will be on scene overnight to continue mop up. Updates are posted on Watch Duty for the “Blind Fire”
