With the passing of Chief Ross, we find ourselves looking back—not only on the life he lived, but on the incredible legacy he leaves behind.
Did you know that the Calvert City Fire Department has had three generations of the same family serve our community?
In late 1950, Chief Ed Rendleman was named temporary Fire Chief of the newly formed Calvert City Fire Department. What began as a temporary position became a lifetime of service. Chief Rendleman served as Chief for 50 years.
He was also Chief Ross’s father-in-law.
Chief Ross would carry that legacy forward, serving Calvert City for more than 50 years, Chief for 25 of those. For more than half a century, he answered the call, led his department, served his community, and became a part of the history of Calvert City.
And today, that legacy continues through Tyler Ross, Chief Ross’s grandson, who proudly serves with the Calvert City Fire Department.
Three generations. One family. Decades upon decades of sacrifice, dedication, and service.
It’s a powerful reminder that being a firefighter is about more than putting on a uniform and answering a call. Somewhere along the way, it becomes part of who you are. It becomes family. It becomes tradition. And eventually, it becomes a legacy passed from one generation to the next.
Chief Ross may no longer be answering the calls alongside us, but the impact he made—and the legacy he helped build—will continue to answer them for generations to come.
The torch has been passed, but the light he helped create will never go out.
Rest easy, Chief. Your watch is over, but your legacy lives on.
