Chats with Dietetic Interns about getting kids to eat veggies!

Good nutrition is important for young children to help them grow strong and healthy. Here’s some tips to help picky eaters try new things:
1. Try eating the food first to show them you like it. Then, let them try it.
2. Give them a choice of different foods to try. Let them decide which one to try today.
3. Try a variety of tastes and textures
4. Keep it fun!
5. Wait a couple of days before offering the food again. It may take 8 to 10 exposures before a young child is willing to try a new food.

To learn more tips on picky eaters, visit the CDCs site on “Tips to Help Picky Eaters” here: https://www.cdc.gov/nutrition/features/help-picky-eater.html

Before you talk to your teen about va**ng, know the facts:

•7.8% (1.21 million) high school students and 3.5% (410,000) middle school students reported current use of e-ci******es.

•Two Thirds of teens don’t realize that e-cigs contain addictive ni****ne.

•Va**ng isn’t “flavored water vapor”, e-juice comes in the form of aerosol and contains heavy metals and harmful chemicals linked to lung disease.

•E-ci******es and v**e devices come in several forms. While some resemble to***co products, others resemble household objects like USB devices, pens, highlighters and chargers.

•Each v**e pod or disposable v**e product can contain as much ni****ne as a pack of ci******es.

•Nicotine is harmful to developing brains, affecting attention, learning, mood, impulse control and memory

Quick Tips for talking to your teen:

•Put yourself in your child’s shoes

•Take an open and calm approach

•Find the right time and place

•Take time to practice
