Happy Fall Tip Tuesday!

The last fall tip was aimed at new hunters, encouraging them to check out the “First-Time Sportsman’s License,” a great opportunity for those ready to jump into the world of hunting and angling.

But what about those who have purchased an annual hunting or fishing license before…?

Consider the Sportsman’s License!

As opposed to purchasing a license or permit for each season, the Sportsman’s License is a one-stop-shop type of purchase that includes…
•Combination Annual Hunting and Fishing Licenses
•Deer Permit, Spring Turkey Permit, Fall Turkey Permit, Migratory Bird/Waterfowl Permit, and Trout Permit.

This discounted offer is only available for Kentucky residents, equipping you with every license/permit you need for deer and turkey hunting this fall!

Happy Fishing Friday!

In this week's fishing report, Adam Martin, from the Western Fisheries District, hits on what's biting and where on Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley, encouraging anglers to check out the "Lakes with Fish Attractors" maps.

Kentucky Fish and Wildlife partnered with Jackson Purchase Energy Cooperative (JPEC) to establish a new dove field at West Kentucky WMA by creating a “faux power line” to enhance the field!

JPEC provided specialized equipment to properly and safely erect the wooden poles, also providing and stretching the wire between them.

Even a single span of wire has been observed to increase dove use of a field by providing perching spots for the birds to use before and after feeding in the sunflowers. Western Kentucky WMA staff have already observed several other songbird and raptor species using the wire in the short time it’s been up!

This field, in Tract 6 of the WMA, will be used as a dove field in future years by planting sunflowers or other annual grains to attract doves and to enhance dove hunting opportunity.

Thank you, as always, to our hardworking team and to the folks at Jackson Purchase Energy Cooperative for helping them make this happen.
