Tall Timbers Park Closed for Trail Repairs and Parking Lot Maintenance

The Bossier Parish Highway Department will begin repairs to the walking trail at Tall Timbers Park on Monday, October 26.

During the trail repair project, the walking trail will be closed, but the playground and restrooms will remain open.

Beginning Monday, November 2, a contractor will sealcoat the parking lots serving the playground and walking trail. Sealcoating helps protect pavement from water, sunlight, oil, and other damage, extending the life of the asphalt.

To ensure the work is completed safely, the playground parking lot, playground, restrooms, and walking trail will be closed from November 2 through November 8. All facilities are expected to reopen on Monday, November 9.

The Bossier Parish Police Jury appreciates the public's patience during these improvements.

ROAD CLOSURE: LA 2 at the UP RR crossing, Bossier Parish

BOSSIER PARISH, LA. - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises motorists that beginning on Monday, October 26, 2026, LA 2 at the Union Pacific Railroad crossing in Plain Dealing, north Bossier Parish, will be closed.

This road closure is scheduled to be in place through Wednesday, October 28, 2026, and is necessary to allow crews with the RR company to perform repairs to the tracks and for DOTD crews to pave the roadway approaches to the crossing.

Restrictions/Permits: Total road closure at the specified location. All vehicles will need to utilize an alternate route.

Alternate Route: Motorists may detour using LA 3, LA 160, and LA 157. Appropriate detour signage will be in place.

Plain Dealing Celebrates High Speed Internet and it's High School Achievement

Residents of Plain Dealing have a new reason to celebrate after state, parish, and local leaders gathered Wednesday morning to cut the ribbon on expanded broadband service coming to the community through Louisiana's GUMBO Program.

The Granting Unserved Municipalities Broadband Opportunities (GUMBO) Program, administered by ConnectLA, is helping bring reliable, high-speed internet to communities across Louisiana that have historically lacked access to quality broadband service.
Among those attending the ceremony were Bossier Parish Police Jurors John Ed Jorden (District 4), Glenn Benton (District 2), and Chris Marsiglia (District 6), who joined state and local officials in marking the occasion.

"This is definitely a great day in Plain Dealing," said Dr. Ken Ward, Bossier Parish Administrator. "The Governor spoke on Monday about bringing projects to the rural parts of the state. Well, here we are; we're in rural Bossier Parish, talking about a great program with ConnectLA on the GUMBO Grant Program that's going on with the funds for broadband."

The project means better access to the online tools and services people rely on every day, whether it's working from home, attending virtual classes, running a business, connecting with family, or accessing healthcare resources.

Comcast will serve as the internet provider for Plain Dealing, delivering broadband service to homes and businesses throughout the community.

Adding to the excitement of the day were members of the Plain Dealing Lions football team, who were recognized alongside their coach following a milestone achievement for the program. Last Friday, the Lions earned their first football victory in more than four years.

To celebrate the team's accomplishment, the players were presented with an LSU football helmet signed by Coach Lane Kiffin. Among those recognized was Jamrion Baker Shepherd, a longtime member of the Lions who has played for the team since the seventh grade. Shepherd scored a touchdown in the historic win and was also awarded a $1,000 scholarship and a welder's helmet as he prepares to pursue a career in welding at Louisiana Technical College in Shreveport.

John Ed Jorden, Police Juror for the district the town is in, congratulated the team on its achievement and praised the players for their perseverance. "What this team accomplished is something we all are proud of," Jorden said. “The whole town is celebrating right along with them.”

Today's ribbon-cutting was more than just the celebration of a new service. It was a celebration of progress, opportunity, and community success. From expanding broadband access to recognizing local student-athletes, the event highlighted the bright future ahead for Plain Dealing and the continued effort to ensure rural communities have the resources they need to connect, grow, and thrive.

DOTD Announces Statewide Road Show Schedule for 2027-2028 Highway Construction Priorities

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces the schedule for its annual legislative public hearings, commonly known as the DOTD Road Show, giving residents, local officials, and legislators across Louisiana an opportunity to review and provide input on highway construction priorities proposed for state fiscal year 2027-2028.

The Joint Transportation, Highways, and Public Works Committee will conduct the hearings in accordance with state law. The statewide series begins October 20 in Houma and concludes October 29 in Lafayette.

“The Road Show is an important part of how we determine where Louisiana’s transportation dollars are invested,” DOTD Secretary Glenn Ledet said. “It gives us an opportunity to sit down with legislators, local leaders and the people who use these roads every day, hear what is most important to their communities and make sure those perspectives are part of the process as we establish our construction priorities for the coming years.”

DOTD develops the Highway Priority Program annually to identify projects scheduled for construction letting in the upcoming state fiscal year, as well as projects advancing through other stages of development. Following the public hearings, DOTD will develop the final construction program for submission to the Louisiana Legislature.

The preliminary FY 2027-2028 Highway Priority Program is available online or for public review at:
