Today carries a special significance for those who serve in emergency response.

Twenty-five years ago, firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency medical personnel, dispatchers and countless others answered the call on one of the darkest days in our nation’s history. Many made the ultimate sacrifice.

This morning at 9:11 a.m., the Saline Crossing Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will host a commemorative ceremony at the Saline County Courthouse Gazebo to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honor our nation’s first responders.

To those who answered the call then, and those who continue answering it today: we remember.

We will never forget. 🇺🇸

Behind every uniform is a person — someone who answers the call, serves our communities, and often carries the weight of experiences most of us will never see.

Tomorrow, we invite our first responders, their families, friends, and the entire Saline County community to join us for Carry the Light: First Responder Su***de Prevention Day.

🕯️ Together, we will remember the first responders we’ve lost, support those who continue to serve, and reinforce an important message:

You are not alone.

⚠️ SALINE COUNTY BURN BAN REMAINS IN EFFECT ⚠️

Saline County’s countywide burn ban will remain in effect until further notice.

We are constantly evaluating and reevaluating conditions across Saline County to determine when it will be safe to lift the burn ban. This includes ongoing communication with the Saline County Office of Emergency Management, National Weather Service, our Volunteer Fire Departments, and other local partners.

We are also closely monitoring the U.S. Drought Monitor, current fire conditions, recent rainfall, and the extended weather forecast.

After taking all of these factors into consideration, the decision has been made to KEEP THE BURN BAN IN PLACE at this time.

This decision is made with the safety of our residents and first responders in mind. Even with recent rainfall in portions of the county, dry conditions and the potential for fire remain a concern.

While the burn ban remains in effect:

• DO NOT burn leaves, brush, debris, or other materials
• Never leave grills or other open flames unattended
• Properly dispose of ci******es
• Avoid parking vehicles on dry grass
• Be alert for smoke or signs of fire
• Report fires or burning activity immediately to the appropriate authorities

We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as we continue to evaluate conditions daily.

Please help us spread the word: SALINE COUNTY REMAINS UNDER A BURN BAN.

We will continue to provide updates and will announce as soon as conditions allow the burn ban to be safely lifted.
