Second graders are studying Ancient Greece and learning about the strategies of the battles during that time. Using STEM materials in a library lesson with Ms. Cosio, students constructed a Trojan horse of their own. Using inquiry and imagination, students thought about how to fit enough soldiers into their horse to win the battle. Ooh, the possibilities and the challenges! 🌎🐴

The students in Moonlight Mystery Camp are reading the book “The Nine Moons of Han Yu and Luli” and they are loving it! This week they built marble tuns of the walled city of their choosing. They looked at pictures of ancient cities and created their own. Inquiry, perspective, creativity and imagination with purpose! We love Navigator Enrichment Camp days! 🌎

Students in the Mini Medics session of Navigator Enrichment Camp are feeling the learning “in their bones”!! The past two weeks have involved stethoscopes, mock blood draws, as well as using marshmallows and toothpicks to build models of joints and bones.
This camp session is led by two BHS Ignite students with additional volunteers from that program. I don’t know who is having more fun!! ☠️🩻🩺

Today was one for the books! 📚 The International School at Mary Mae Jones was so proud to host Katherine Applegate and Gennifer Choldenko, authors of the newly released book “I am a Good Dog!” from the Dogtown series. Thank you,Two Friends Books, for selecting us for a first author visit!
Our third and fourth graders had a great time leaning about how we can help out animal shelters, and about nonprofits that have programs about reading with animals. What a great day!!

TIS - Going back to the 2000’s!
Mary Mae Jones Elementary opened in 2004 so we bounced right back to lava lamps, flip phones, and video game controllers!
The 4th grade Navigator Ambassadors represented TIS in the
BHS Homecoming Parade and we said “OMG, BRB, we got to go back! Lol!! “
If you look closely, you might see a flashback principal in that first picture!! Shout out to our coaches for walking with the float! 🌎 🎉Roll Tigs!

A primary component of IB is weaving the Units of Inquiry into all content areas. Coach Johnson built on to the first grade light and sound unit by having students create hopscotch ladders from their tall shadows during PE. Revisiting the concepts in a new place with a new subject helps students transfer learning out of the classroom and into the world. 🪜🌎👤💡

When the photo captures the intensity of a classroom, it is worth sharing. Third grade spent time today analyzing text and citing evidence. We build the Approaches to Learning skill of Research beginning in kindergarten but things ramp up in third grade. You can almost see the smoke coming out of their ears as these brains burn!!🔥

The first grader classes’ inquiry into the function of shadows went SO well!  They drew a diagram before and then after the investigation of how shadows were made.  They identified the light source (the sun), what was the block (the body) and the result (the shadow of our body)! ☀️👤🌎

Fourth grade explored the history of our community by attending School Days at the historic Peel Museum. They enjoyed activities, dance, and informational presentations about what school and community looked like in the 1800s. Special thanks to Peel Museum & Botanical Garden for hosting us!

Being a Thinker means focusing on your problem or challenge and exploring every potential solution. Fourth graders in IB Passport used teamwork along with being a Communicator to create the tallest tower with only sheets of paper.
As you can see… half the fun is posing with your tower!!
