🌤️ MORGAN COUNTY WV 911 — WEEKEND WEATHER & SAFETY PSA 🚨
Friday, September 18 – Sunday, September 20
The weekend is here, and Morgan County residents and visitors have plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. Before heading out, take a moment to check the weather and make safety part of your plans.
🌤️ WEEKEND WEATHER
Saturday: Expect a mix of clouds and sunshine with temperatures in the lower 70s. A shower could develop in spots, particularly late in the afternoon.
⛈️ Sunday: The day is expected to be mainly cloudy and more humid, with a chance for an afternoon thunderstorm. If you're planning outdoor activities, keep an eye on changing conditions and have a way to receive weather alerts.
The National Weather Service forecast discussion indicates that Saturday should generally be the drier day, while conditions become more unsettled Sunday.
🏕️ ENJOYING THE OUTDOORS? STAY SAFE!
Morgan County offers plenty of ways to enjoy the weekend — hiking, camping, fishing, boating, ATV riding, motorcycle riding, hunting, visiting parks, working around the property, or simply spending time outdoors. As always we highly recommend you download the FREE What3Words app on your phone to help provide your location should you need help while in the outdoors in places that do not have a traditional address.
A few reminders:
• Hiking & trails: Tell someone where you're going and when you expect to return. Carry a charged phone, water, and appropriate supplies.
• Boating & fishing: Wear a properly fitted life jacket when boating, and remember that changing weather can quickly make conditions on the water more dangerous.
• ATVs & off-road activities: Wear your helmet and appropriate protective equipment, stay on designated trails, and never operate an ATV while impaired.
• Motorcycles & driving: Watch for changing road conditions, wet pavement, wildlife, bicycles, pedestrians, and other recreational traffic.
• Camping & outdoor fires: Never leave a campfire unattended. Make sure fires are completely extinguished before leaving the area.
• Thunderstorms: If thunder is heard, seek shelter. Don't wait for the storm to be directly overhead before moving to a safe location.
• Children & pets: Keep an eye on children around water, roads, recreational equipment, and unfamiliar areas. Make sure pets have identification and are kept under control.
📱 STAY WEATHER AWARE
Weather conditions can change quickly, especially when thunderstorms are possible. Keep your phone charged, make sure emergency alerts are enabled, and check updated National Weather Service information before and during your outdoor activities.
