On Friday, October 16th our Morgan County Health Department office was made aware, via a phone call, that a specified area (small) within the Town of Bath was under a boil water advisory. Our environmental health department spoke to businesses within that specified area at that time.

No further communication was received by the Morgan County Health Department until Sunday morning, October 18, 2026, when we found out through social media, that this advisory, which was still in place, was impacting a larger area.

With that being said, there appears to be some misinformation as to the local health department collecting and testing water. We do not collect samples or conduct testing of the public water system for the Town of Bath at the local health department.

Private well samples that are brought to the health department by property owners for testing are sent to the state lab for testing by our environmental health staff.

As for businesses located within the affected area, members of our health department will be visiting affected food businesses within the next few hours to discuss whether or not they have the ability to safely operate. Thank you.

DRINKING WATER AVAILABLE

We will have 1-gallon jugs of drinking water available for pickup at the Berkeley Springs Volunteer Fire Company, located at 34 N. Mercer Street for the people that have been affected by the boil water advisory.

The water was provided by Berkeley Club Beverages Inc, and we greatly appreciate their assistance.

For now, we are asking that everyone please limit pickup to one gallon jug per person, while supplies last, so we can help as many residents as possible.

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.

Proper handwashing is a great way to help prevent the spread of germs and to prevent illness.
If 20 seconds seems difficult to remember, sing a verse of "Happy Birthday to You" 🎼🎼to yourself (no rushing 😉 ) and by the time you reach the end, you are ready to dry your hands.

To properly wash your hands, use clean, running water and soap for at least 20 seconds, covering all surfaces including the backs of hands, between fingers, and under nails 🧼 Dry hands thoroughly with a clean towel or air dryer!
