Service in action!
A wonderful group of UC Berkeley students generously gave their time to help move furniture and clean up at Old City Hall. These five volunteers helped move heavy file cabinets, organize Dorothy's closet sorting area, and bring needed supplies to Center Street. Their team work made a big difference. Here they are enjoying a well-earned Dorothy Day House lunch on the steps of Old City Hall.
Thank you and we are deeply grateful.

3 days are left in our End of Year Campaign.
Winter is still here - and so is the need for warm beds, nourishing meals, and a place of welcome.
Your support before January 31 helps ensure care continues through the coldest months.

When others move on, we stay
January is one of the hardest months for our unhoused neighbors – but at Dorothy Day House, our doors remain open.
Hope doesn’t end with the holidays.
It lives on through your compassion.

We are deeply grateful to Jeanine Gentry and Saint Monica’s Church for their generous donation of clothing.
Your generosity enables us to provide many of our unhoused neighbors with the only new clothing they will receive this year. The impact of your support is both significant and far-reaching—often touching lives in ways that go far beyond what one might immediately see.

End the Year with Love.
As the year comes to a close, we remain committed to providing care, sustenance, and shelter to our neighbors in need.
Your end-of-year contribution helps keep our doors open and sustains hope for the year ahead.

What does dignity look like?
It looks like a warm meal served without judgement
A clean bed after a night on the street
A moment of being seen – really seen
At Dorothy Day House, we believe dignity is not a luxury
It’s a right. And this winter, you can give it.
Your year-end donation helps provide shelter, care, and compassion to people experiencing homelessness in Berkeley.

A 6-year-old reminded us what generosity looks like. ❤️
Viola held a lemonade stand and donated her earnings to help our unhoused neighbors because, in her words, “I wish everybody had homes and could live happily.”
As we close out the year, we’re asking our community to join Viola’s kindness.
Every contribution—large or small—helps us provide meals, shelter, and dignity.
If you’d like to support our end-of-year campaign, DM me and I’ll send you the link to donate.
Let’s finish the year strong, together. 🧡

We’re grateful for the generosity of our community partner.
After reaching out to The Crown Royal Coffee in Oakland , Chris Kornman, Director of Education, responded with an incredibly generous offer to support us with ongoing coffee donations.
Today we picked up our first 50-lb donation, which will significantly help ease our current coffee shortages and support the guests we serve every day.
A heartfelt thank you to Royal Coffee for their continued partnership and commitment to our community. ☕
