As part of National School Breakfast Week (3/2-3/6), BUSD Nutrition Services would like to recognize our Purchasing Sous Chef, Ric Keeley. He has dedicated the last 12 years to not only purchasing fresh food and produce for the salad bars and school lunches we serve at all of our schools and pre-schools, but he has also devoted himself to getting the best breakfast products to nourish the children of Berkeley Unified School District. Recently, he was able to get one of the vendors we work with to change their plastic wrap to compostable wrap which is a huge win for the earth and the District. Thank you, Ric, for your wonderful dedication to the pursuit of the best products to feed our kids and sustainability. 👏👏

Meet "Miss V"! She has been a dedicated employee of BUSD Nutrition Services since 2009, and at John Muir as the Satellite Operator (Kitchen Manager) since 2012. V enjoys feeding the children breakfast and lunch - especially the children who come to school hungry. She loves to see them happy and smiling after a good breakfast and lunch. She is also very passionate about seeing the kids at John Muir trying new foods like vegetables from the salad bar or a new dish. For example, when she had mouse melons on the salad bar, she encouraged the kids to try them. She said to the kids "try these mouse melons. They taste like cucumbers. It's always good to try new things. Take a tiny piece and see if you like it. You might be surprised. If you like it, you can come and get more." And the kids responded "they are so cute!" and "ooo they are interesting. I like them. I want some more."
Thank you, Miss V, for looking out for the health and nutrition of the children at John Muir. ✨✨
