Don Reed's The Kipling Hotel: True Misadventures of the Electric Pink '80s. Reed's East 14th chronicled the ‘70s and now it's his true misadventures through the ‘80s. As the awkward son of a pimp struggling through college, he tries being a stripper and a gigolo but he ends up a live-in waiter at an unforgettable retirement hotel, breakfast-sandwiched between the elderly, employee drifters and drug addicted dreamers.

Hey Southern California, I’m coming to the Los Angeles area to do THE NEVER TOO LATE SHOW at THIS Saturday MAY 11th - 3pm Matinee and 8pm evening show. City of Brea — Curtis Theatre

It’s about the importance of never giving up. I play about 10 or 15 characters. All my comedic capability, writing, and heart are in this show.

The interlinking storylines will blow your mind. Hear original music from my sons Tag Reed (), Dane Reed () and the very talented Doyle Robinson.

Back in 2008 after running East 14th Off Broadway NYC and a long run in Los Angeles - I was finally ready to bring the show home to the Bay Area. I did a lot, lot, lot of research and came upon a show and a man.

The show was Not A Genuine Black Man. The man was Brian Copeland.

I never met or spoke to him. I just researched him. It was him and this show that spurred me to reach out to Founder and Artistic/Executive Director Stephanie Weisman (Wizard of Diversity should be added to her title). East 14th had already been battle tested and very well reviewed - but luckily Stephanie LOVED it. That led to being extended 22 times and chosen to launch a 2nd theatre The Marsh Berkeley. But it all started with seeing this man. This black man doing well with a solo show in the Bay.

Well, this Saturday Brian Copeland celebrates the 20th Anniversary and 1,000th performance of the Bay Area's longest running solo show -- this coming Saturday April 20th where it all began - The Marsh San Francisco. Serendipitously it's also Brian's birthday! Please join me for this stunning achievement and an evening you will never forget.

It's that moment when you sit listening to a story.
Not watching TV.
Definitely not on your phone.
You hear a human being sharing a story.
You laugh. You may very well cry.
It just... hits different.
