Berkley Fire/Rescue would like to congratulate FF Deven Marchand on his graduation this evening from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy Call/Volunteer Recruit Firefighter Training Class #129!

Deven completed months of demanding training on nights and weekends, developing the skills and knowledge necessary to serve our community as a firefighter.

We are proud of Deven’s hard work, dedication, and commitment to Berkley Fire/Rescue and the community we serve.

Congratulations to Deven and all the members of Class #129 on this accomplishment and officially becoming some of the Commonwealth’s newest firefighters!

This week, several members of Berkley Fire/Rescue took advantage of a Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) training opportunity made possible through a FEMA grant awarded to the Lakeville Fire Department.

We would like to thank Lakeville Fire Department for extending this opportunity to our members, the New Bedford Fire Department for providing their training facility and instructional staff, and Lt. Ryan Silvia of Lakeville Fire for his hard work securing the grant and organizing this valuable training program.

Opportunities like this allow our firefighters to train in realistic environments, strengthen their skills, and work alongside neighboring departments—all while better preparing them to respond when a firefighter needs help.

This morning, members of Berkley Fire/Rescue trained on Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) skills.

Firefighters worked through an SCBA maze with limited visibility to locate and rescue a manikin simulating a downed firefighter. Several scenarios required multiple teams, reinforcing the importance of communication, teamwork, and coordination during complex firefighter rescues.

RIT training prepares our members for one of the most critical situations on the fireground — rescuing a firefighter who becomes trapped, injured, or unable to escape.

A big thank you to the Dighton Fire Department for allowing us to use their training facility and the Berkley CERT Team for providing firefighter rehab and SCBA air supply throughout the morning.

Halloween is creeping closer in Berkley!

We’re already gearing up for the Town Halloween Event on October 30th, and it looks like a couple members of our command staff couldn’t wait to get into the Halloween spirit!

Meet Chief Bones Perry and Deputy Chief Fright Knight! They’re already out front of the station saying hello and keeping an eye on things—or at least they would be if they still had eyes.

They’ll be hanging around all month, so if you’re driving by the station, be sure to give them a wave!

They may be a little thin on experience—and everything else—but at least they never complain about working overtime!

Stay tuned as we get closer to October 30th for more information about this year’s Halloween festivities!

🎃👻 Happy spooky season from Berkley Fire/Rescue!

At approximately 9:48 a.m. today, Berkley Fire/Rescue was dispatched to Macomber Street for a reported generator on fire.

Car 1, Car 2, Engine 3, and Engine 1 responded. Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to the home.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported and damage was limited to the generator.

We would also like to thank the Berkley Police Department for responding and assisting our crews on scene. We appreciate the continued teamwork between our public safety departments in serving the Berkley community.

⚠️ NOR’EASTER STORM REMINDER

Berkley Fire/Rescue is reminding residents to use caution as the approaching nor’easter brings heavy rain and strong winds to our area.

The heaviest conditions are expected later this afternoon through Sunday morning, with storm impacts potentially lingering into Monday. Forecasts are calling for 4–6 inches of rain and winds of 15–25 mph, with gusts potentially reaching 35–60 mph.

Residents should be prepared for localized/coastal flooding, downed trees, power outages, and downed power lines. Secure outdoor items, charge electronic devices, and avoid unnecessary travel during the worst conditions.

NEVER approach a downed power line. Always assume it is live. High-voltage electricity can travel through the ground well beyond the point where a wire makes contact.

Weekend Storm Safety

With rain and strong winds expected across Massachusetts this weekend, Berkley Fire Rescue reminds residents to take steps now to prepare and stay safe.

Before the storm, review your family emergency plan and make sure you are prepared for the possibility of an extended power outage. Emergency supplies should include flashlights, extra batteries, a battery-powered or hand-crank radio, first-aid supplies, necessary medications, drinking water, and other essential items.

Charge up: Fully charge cellphones, battery packs, and other important electronic devices.

Secure outdoor items: Bring in or secure patio furniture, decorations, trash barrels, and other objects that could become airborne in strong winds.

Stay informed: Monitor local weather forecasts and emergency alerts before and throughout the storm, as conditions can change quickly.

Use caution: Avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather and never drive through flooded roadways.

Stay clear of downed wires: Keep away from downed trees, power lines, and utility wires. Always assume a downed wire is live.

TRAINING NEVER STOPS

Earlier today, members of Berkley Fire/Rescue spent the morning working on hose deployment drills and flow testing our various hose and nozzle combinations.

The flow testing allows our crews to verify actual water flow and determine the proper pump pressure presets for each setup, helping ensure our firefighters can quickly and consistently deliver the right amount of water when it matters most.

A big thank you to Lt. Ryan Silvia of the Lakeville Fire Department for spending the morning with us and assisting with the training and flow testing. We greatly appreciate the knowledge, time, and support from our mutual-aid partners.

Train together. Work together. Be ready together.
