Buckingham Elementary School is located in the town of Berlin, approximately 10 miles west of Ocean City in Worcester County, Maryland. As a neighborhood school, Buckingham Elementary serves 530 students in grades Pre-K3 through 4. Buckingham Elementary is situated in a Fine Arts District and integrates all forms of the arts across its curriculum. Students at BES have access to a wealth of technology and digital resources as part of our 1:1 district initiative, where each student has access to their own iPad to use during the school day. Buckingham Elementary School has been recognized by the Maryland State Department of Education as a Positive Behaviors and Supports Exemplar/Gold School. In 2017 Buckingham was selected as a National Title I Distinguished School. BES was also named a 2018 Maryland Green School through developing sustainable practices. We place a high focus on teaching respect and building character in all our students. At BES, we believe that the staff, students, parents and community have come "Together for Success!"

Drivers, motorists, and families—let's all do our part:
🛑 Stop when red lights flash & stop arms extend
🚶 Slow down in school zones & near bus stops
👀 Stay alert around students crossing

Our 4th graders are collecting donations for the Humane Society, showing us that learning is about more than books and assignments, it’s about developing compassion, building empathy, and making a difference in the lives of others, including our furry friends! 🐾❤️

A HUGE shout-out to our 4th-grade team for creating authentic learning experiences that connect literacy, character, and community service. This is what learning with purpose looks like at Buckingham Elementary! 💙💛

Good Attendance Builds Strong Habits!

Showing up to school every day helps students build routines, stay connected, and succeed academically! We encourage families to check out this helpful resource from Attendance Works: "Help Your Child Do Well in School: Build the Habit of Good Attendance."

Understanding Attendance:

🟢 0–9 days absent: Good Standing

🟡 10–17 days absent: At Risk

🔴 18+ days absent: Chronically Absent

Important Attendance Reminders:

Families may submit up to 10 parent notes per school year to excuse absences.

Please submit doctor's notes as soon as possible so absences can be coded correctly.

Even excused absences count toward chronic absenteeism. Students who miss 18 or more school days are considered chronically absent, regardless of whether doctor's notes have been submitted.

We understand that illnesses and unexpected circumstances happen! Our goal is to work together with families to support consistent attendance and help every student succeed.

Every school day matters!

Dr. Annette Wallace is bringing Diet Coke with the Supt to the Berlin McDonald’s (near Walmart) on Tuesday, November 3, from 5:00–6:30 p.m.

Dr. Wallace is looking forward to a evening of casual conversation with our families and community members. There’s no agenda and no presentation — just a chance to grab a seat, share what’s on your mind, and talk about the schools and students we all care about.

Stop by, say hello, and stay for a chat.
