Most families learn this at the worst possible moment, usually in a hospital discharge meeting. Medicare doesn’t pay for non-medical help at home when that’s the only care someone needs.

Whichever one you are, you don’t have to carry it alone.

Fall craft day at the Rocky Hill Senior Center 🍂🧶

Our team brought the treats and the supplies. The group brought the jokes. Everyone went home with something they made with their own hands.

This class is completely free. For your mom or dad, it’s an hour of good company and something to do with their hands.

Want one of our caregivers to bring them, stay with them, or run their errands while they’re in class? We can set that up.

That’s Natalia, our hiring coordinator, going over an application with one of our caregivers. Every caregiver who works with our families went through this, plus nine more steps.

When families hire someone privately, someone still has to do all of that. Usually it’s an adult child, at night, after work.

Comparing options? Call us at 860-829-0208 and ask what’s included before you compare prices.

The leaves are coming down, it’s getting dark earlier, and the first frost is close. Fall is when a lot of homes quietly get less safe for older adults, usually in ways nobody notices until something happens.

Five things worth checking this month:

1. Outdoor steps cleared of wet leaves, with a solid handrail on both sides
2. Night lights from bedroom to bathroom, now that it’s dark by 6
3. Smoke and carbon monoxide detector batteries, before the heat runs all winter
4. Throw rugs gone or taped down, especially by the door where boots come in
5. A grab bar in the shower, not a towel bar doing the job of one

Our caregivers notice these things on every visit. If you want a second set of eyes on your parent’s home, call us at 860-829-0208.

Which one of these would you find in your parent’s house right now? Tell us below.

October is also Italian American Heritage Month. For a lot of Connecticut families, Sunday gravy and Italian at the dinner table never stopped meaning home.

We match caregivers by language when it matters, and Italian is one of them, along with Polish, Russian, Ukrainian and Spanish. When memory starts to slip, the first language is often the one that stays, and the one that comforts.

Does anyone in your family still switch to Italian when they're tired or upset? Tell us below.

Today is World Mental Health Day, so here are some numbers about the people who take care of everyone else.

In a 2026 survey of sandwich-generation caregivers: 80% feel mentally overloaded by care decisions. 80% need breaks but struggle to take them. 87% say what they carry is invisible to the people around them.

If that's you, the break isn't selfish. It's how you keep going. Respite care means a trained caregiver covers for a few hours, a weekend, or a week, so you can rest.

If you know someone carrying this quietly, they might need to see it.
