I’ll never forget the morning my stepdaughter told us she was wearing her “lucky socks” to school. Joe and I assumed she had an AP History test.

Then she told us the socks were supposed to keep her alive if a school shooter came to Southington High School.

Our hearts dropped.

No child should walk into a classroom wondering if they will make it home. No parent should have to wonder if their child will be safe at school.

That’s why I will stand up for common-sense gun laws— laws that respect responsible, law-abiding gun owners while making our communities safer.

Gun violence prevention isn’t partisan. It’s about protecting our children, our families, and our communities. And I’m ready to lead this effort.

🏆 Congratulations to Berlin High School biology teacher Christopher Wisniewski, Connecticut’s 2027 Teacher of the Year!

Governor Lamont and Education Commissioner Russell-Tucker surprised him with the news today, right at BHS, with students, colleagues, and community members there to celebrate. It comes on the heels of BHS winning a multi-year Lemelson-MIT grant this week: one of just five schools in the Massachusetts-Connecticut cohort, and the only one in Connecticut.

If you know Carpe Noctem, you know his work. Mr. Wisniewski led the BHS InvenTeam. His students took on white-nose syndrome in bats and engineered a real solution:

🦇 A U.S. provisional patent application naming all 10 students as inventors
🦇 The Golden Beaver Award as the nation’s top InvenTeam
🦇 Presentations at MIT, before the State Board of Education, and at a national bat research symposium in Colorado

He also expanded early college at BHS, building zoology as Berlin’s first SCSU early college course, with over 95% of participating students earning college credit.

A Stratford public schools kid and the first in his family to graduate college, he calls public education a generational trust. Berlin students are lucky he’s carrying it forward.

He represents Connecticut as a finalist for NATIONAL Teacher of the Year. 🇺🇸

Berlin is proud of you, Mr. Wisniewski! 💙🦇
