Last night around 8:40, Rescues 29, 27 (Keystone Fire Company) and EMS were dispatched to the 300 block of New Schaefferstown Rd in Jefferson Township for a tractor trailer that had gotten off the farm driveway and rolled.
Rescue, Engine and Utility 29 made the response. After response, Berks DES advised of possibly no injuries. The chief held station 27 units in quarters.
Deputy 29 arrived, with a milk tanker on its roof, leaking milk and diesel fuel. Engine 27 and Spill 27 were requested to respond to the scene for additional suppression support if needed since the truck was in close proximity to the house. Crews from 29 and 27 formed a dam to contain the fluids leaking. It was estimated the trailer had approximately 4,000 gallons of milk, and the tractor fuel tanks had approximately 100 gallons of diesel fuel. A safety line from E29 was stretched for the duration of the incident. Crews applied 12 bags of oil dry to the downed fluids in attempts to minimize soil saturation due to a well being in down hill proximity of the spill.
V&M Towing was requested along with Keystone Environmental due to the large amount of fluid release. Keystone is handling any needed cleanup of contaminates.
Bethel Community Ambulance transported the driver to be evaluated at the hospital. Crews returned to their stations around midnight.
