Recently, Berrien Springs Middle School students in the PLTW engineering class welcomed Hanson International, based in St. Joseph, to learn about the company’s work and apprenticeship program. A current apprentice shared his journey from middle school through high school and into the program, including the classes he now takes at the Hanson building on Lake Michigan College’s campus.

The discussion highlighted how middle school courses, especially their engineering class, build skills that prepare students for future learning and careers in engineering and manufacturing.

It’s National Principals Month, and Berrien Springs Public Schools is proud to celebrate our outstanding principals, who support and inspire our staff and students every day.

From the beginning to the end of the school day, our principals bring the Shamrock Way to everything they do. They support student learning, encourage staff, help create a safe and welcoming learning environment, and much more.

Superintendent Dr. Bruce shared, “We recently asked for our community's help in designing our Portrait of a Shamrock Professional. It provides a shared standard for who we hire, how we lead, and how we hold ourselves accountable. With the support of our Board of Education and community, we have built an outstanding team of principals, and assistant principals. I understand that great schools are built by great leaders. Our principals are those leaders. They work with all staff, drivers, food service, operations and families everyday to ensure our students are Opportunity Ready!

Thank you to our principals for their dedication to student growth and academic achievement, and for making BSPS a special place to learn and work.

At Camp Manitou-Lin in Middleville, students connected with youth from across Michigan and took part in staff-led activities, including low ropes and team building, a zip line, rock wall, and giant swing. Through these exercises and discussions throughout the day, our students explored how they can make an impact in their JMG programs and communities.
