🎉2026 Colorado Free Application Days start tomorrow! 🎓

The ninth annual Colorado Free Application Days will be held on Tuesday, October 20th - Thursday, October 22nd, 2026.

The Colorado Free Application Days campaign is an initiative designed to inspire more Coloradans to continue their education. From Tuesday, Oct. 20 through Thursday, Oct. 22, 2026, many public colleges and universities in Colorado and several private institutions will waive their application fees, making it free for Colorado residents to submit an application.

🛠️ Thompson Career Campus Tour: Tour space is limited for the Nov 17 field trip—sign up via the counseling office Google Form and grab a permission form.

❄️ Winter Sports Registration: Deadline to register via Arbiter (with an up-to-date physical) is Nov 2.

📝 Free College App Days & AP Exams: Submit free CO college apps Oct 20–22; AP exam payments are due Nov 9.

Trading the classroom for Rocky Mountain National Park! 🏔️🐟

Our AP Environmental Science and Thompson River Project students recently headed into RMNP for hands-on aquatic ecology research! 🏞️🔬

Their mission? Investigate meadow streams to determine if conditions are safe to reintroduce native Greenback Cutthroat Trout. Spartans conducted complete Abiotic, Biotic, and Habitat Assessments by:
🧪 Chemical testing for water quality
🔍 Sampling & counting macroinvertebrates under stream rocks
🌿 Inspecting riparian zones for proper flow, depth, and plant cover

Things are getting spooky in the BHS art studio! 🎃✨

Our Sculpture classes took on a major challenge this week: one class to brainstorm and sketch, and just ONE class period to bring their pumpkin designs to life! ⏱️

This wasn't just ordinary carving—students had to pick a unique theme and master both additive and subtractive sculpting techniques. They were graded on creativity, innovation, planning, quality, and the art element of value, shown by how much light they could get to shine through their carvings.💡

One person’s trash is... an AP Environmental Science lesson! 🗑️🔬

Tinker's AP Environmental Science classes took hands-on learning to a whole new level last week! An expert from the Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance joined us to tackle the 5 R’s (Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Rot, Recycle).

Gloves went on as students sorted through real BHS trash, uncovered interesting waste trends, and brainstormed clever ways to make our school cleaner and greener.

Fall Conferences are right around the corner on Tuesday and Wednesday evening, followed by a full day on Thursday (by appointment using password spartans2026!). Please note there is no school for students this Thursday or Friday! We are also making a final call for donations or sign-ups to help feed our hard-working BHS staff during conference week (Venmo: ). Be sure to stop by the Lost & Found table during your conference visit to retrieve any missing belongings before remaining items are donated on Thursday afternoon.

Our counseling department is hosting three valuable info sessions in the BHS library this week: Concurrent Enrollment Night on Tuesday at 6:00 PM (required for new CE students), followed by NCAA Night at 5:00 PM and Scholarship Night at 6:00 PM on Wednesday. Seniors are reminded to schedule their counselor meetings and submit their senior photos, quotes, and yearbook orders by October 30th. Looking ahead, mark your calendars for Colorado Free Application Days (Oct 20–22), the Winter Sports registration deadline (Nov 2), and the AP Exam payment cutoff (Nov 9).
