👨‍🌾Are you a landowner or farmer in Jefferson County? Join us for our annual Local Work Group Meeting on August 26th.

~What is a LWG? ~ 🌱💧
LWGs are composed of agricultural producers, private landowners, and professionals representing ag and natural resource interests. These individuals and agencies are often times familiar with ag and natural resource issues in the local community. Together, led by the SWCD Board and partnering with USDA-NRCS, they identify conservation needs, concerns, and prioritize these needs through USDA and SWCD programs.

On Thursday Jefferson County attended the Area 3 of the AL Association of Soil & Water Conservation Districts annual meeting in Pickens County this year. Board Members Jim Miller and James Fountain along with Board Advisor Jim Phillips attended. We are especially proud that our VP Jim Miller also has the privilege to Chair the Area 3 Board, consisting of 11 counties in the area.

Speakers from AL SWCC, AACD, and NRCS also attended to provide meaningful updates. It was a great day for Conservation!

Today we celebrate the birth of the United States and the freedoms that have united generations of Americans. We also celebrate the pride we have for rural America--the backbone of our nation. To the food we eat, to the clothes we wear, our nation depends on farmers.

🦋 This week is National Pollinator Week! 🐝

It's a time of appreciation and awareness. Three-fourths of the world’s flowering plants and about 35 percent of the world’s food crops depend on animal pollinators to reproduce. More than 3,500 species of native bees help increase crop yields. Some scientists estimate that one out of every three bites of food we eat exists because of animal pollinators like bees, butterflies and moths, birds and bats, and beetles and other insects.

Help us Congratulate our 2026 Litter Quitters Winners! 👏👏👏
While all the videos that were submitted were truly amazing, these are the ones in which communities and students voted to be the top winners in each watershed.
Together, all the videos in this year's competition received a total of 24,646 votes during the voting window until Earth Day! Great job!

Additionally, an outside committee chose Minor High School for the bonus, Best Message Award. Congrats! 🏅
