This past Saturday (Oct. 10th), Bethel was busy celebrating and spreading awareness. The common denominator in both...Bethel was being COMMUNITY.
We started off our Saturday morning with the Grand Opening of Parloa Park. It was a wonderful time seeing families come out to enjoy the space.
Then many headed over to the Municipal Center Lawn to take part in the CEE's Bethel SafeWalk. The community showed up for this event too, to support the CEE and their mission to help those in our community find support.

Thank you Kind Works and all the community volunteers who helped make the Bethel Mural possible! It was a great night at the unveiling.

If you have not seen Kind Works mission it is to inspire humans to act more kindly toward themselves and each other- one person, one Kind act and one community at a time. The Town of Bethel is grateful to have such an organization located right here in our town and are excited for future projects together!

On Tuesday, October 6, 2026 the Town of Bethel will conduct two, in-person meetings to hear feedback about the accessibility of Town facilities and parks. The meetings will be held in Meeting Room A at Clifford J. Hurgin Municipal Center located at 1 School Street, Bethel, CT 06801. The first meeting will be held from 1:00pm – 2:30pm. The second meeting will be held from 5:00pm – 6:30pm. Your insight is important and this is an opportunity to share your opinion.

The Western Connecticut Council of Governments (WestCOG) retained WT Group AEC, LLC Accessibility Practice in 2024 to develop transition plans for facilities and parks within its communities, as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). A transition plan identifies access barriers, and phases the retrofit work over time. John McGovern leads the Accessibility Practice at WT, and he will coordinate the first portion of the meeting. In both meetings, WTG will:
- Review key ADA requirements for Town of Bethel facilities and parks
- Discuss the importance of community feedback in establishing retrofit priorities
- Share observations of access barriers viewed at the Town of Bethel sites
- Ask for the access preferences and priorities of the members of the public in attendance
- Close with a discussion about next steps for the Town of Bethel

Registration is requested. To register, please reach Chris Baldwin, Town of Bethel – Building Official at 203-794-8517 or [email protected]. If a modification is needed to participate because of disability, such as a sign language interpreter, please advise when registering.
If there are any questions, contact John McGovern with WT at 224-293-6451 or [email protected], or Chris Baldwin, Town of Bethel – Building Official at 203-794-8517 or [email protected]. Thank you in advance for helping the Town of Bethel with our ADA Transition Plan.
